Vert and Aggressive Skating, M-Audio Fast Track Pro Setup Issues, and More

Vert and Aggressive Skating:
- if you don't know much about vert and aggressive skating it basically involves inline skates (designed for jumping, tricks, heavy impacts, grinding, etc...), ramps, poles, etc... There are some online channels regarding this particular sport but the genuine practitioners of this sport are fairly rare (relative to other sports)

- lubrication is a bit of a hit and miss affair. Basically, most skates are pre-lubed/greased with and you need to break them in. Once this is done the wheels/skates behave in a more normal fashion/spin more freely (that's why they wheel based sports equipment often doesn't spin freely in store)

- UFS (Universal Frame System) frames are great but just like every other universal thing out there they aren't really 'universal'. Some manufacturers use spacers and variable screw lengths in boots which means you may be required to make trips to the local hardware store to make frames genuinely compatible between boots

what causes skate bearing blow out
- finding inexpensive and good equipment can be frustrating. Wait for sales if need be. If desperate go after used equipment or non-specialist equipment. Good examples of this includes helmets which can often be bought at K-Mart or Big W

- there are a bunch of hybrid blades that have come into vogue now which allow for fast, easy, frame and wheel changes. They're so called Powerblades or Freestyle Blades and straddle the line between aggressive skates and normal inline blade design
can you grind on normal inline skates

- there are some blades that have adjustable sizing out there. Useful because sizing of inline blades isn't as easy as you may think. Different manufacturers aren't true to size
fitting skates
- time to breakin new bearings vary depending on brand as they can often switch between using grease and oil

abec bearings vs reds
- Reds are supposedly more popular then standard ABEC bearings now in the aftermarket. Basically, genuine custom skate bearings rather then 608 type bearings that are normally used in machinery

- there are lots of different places to skate. Conditions and configurations obviously vary drastically though
- foot pain is apparently quite common in skating. Common ways to deal with them include different lace configuration, foot inserts/insoles, different boot sizing and designs, etc...

Founded by company owners/skating legends Brian Shima, Jon Julio and Kato Mateu and supported by all major skate companies, the World Rolling Series (WRS) links together the best skaters, event organizers, retailers and skate parks and aims to "create a tighter knit community, increase overall awareness and set a higher standard for aggressive rollerblading." The WRS circuit started in 2009 with 10 established professional contests in France, Netherlands, England, Spain, Argentina, Australia and the United States. In 2012, WRS now includes 100+ Amateurs and Professional events categorized from 1 to 5 stars in over 20 countries.[5]

Aggressive inline skating was removed from the ESPN X-Games in 2005 although it is still included in the Asian X Games, LG Action Sports Competitions, Montpellier Fise, and many other large competitions, some associated with WRS, some not.[6]

Current aggressive inline skate manufacturers include Remz, USD, Them Skates, Razors, Rollerblade, K2, Roces, Seba and Trigger.[7]

M-Audio Fast Track Pro Setup Issues:
- it's taken me a while to understand how this device works because it works so much more differently then other audio interface devices. It's basically a non class-compliant/stripped down version of an audio interface (M-Audio seems to have a history of this across all hardware. After EOL (End of Life) for product lines they support is often completely dropped with no data being available for those hoping to create third party support for the product)
- relevant Linux kernel module that needs to be loaded is snd_usb_audio

modprobe snd-usb-audio vid=0x763 pid=0x2012 device_setup=0x09 index=0 enable=1

Re: How to Get Jack to Detect my M-Audio Fast Track
Re: Can anyone help with recording using M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Re: M-Audio Fast Track Pro
- based on what I see most people experience the same problem that I've been dealing with. Namely, under Linux playback and MIDI control is available but only limited access is possible to the other functionality of the device (including recording, SPDIF, etc...)
- there are Windows and Mac OS X drivers for all but the latest version of these operating systems
- watch out fot the M-Audio Fast Track Pro control panel applet. It's very strange and doesn't allow you to control the device (bit rate/depth, input configuration, etc...) if other software has a lock/control on the device
- the primary difference that I've come across is that input XLR port 1 corresponds with track 1 and input XLR port 2 corresponds with track 2. This is completely different to other audio interfaces where ports can get arbitrarily re-routed via the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). It's very strange to be honest and counterintuitive and leaves you wondering whether you have a malfunctioning unit
fast track pro really quiet recording
fast track pro audacity can't hear second port

Random Quotes:
- The implementation of the contract for the supply of 11 Su-35 fighter jets to Indonesia has been postponed, reported the newspaper Kommersant, referring to two top managers of Russian defense companies and a source close to the government.

“The contract for the supply of 11 Su-35 fighter jets retains its legal force, but its implementation will be delayed,” the newspaper writes.

According to Kommersant, the first jet was expected to arrive in October, but the US did not give Indonesia guarantees that it would not come under the restrictive measures because of this contract.

“The Russian side also has difficulties. When implementing the contract, it was planned to use a credit line which was expected to be provided by a commercial bank. This could lead to grave consequences for the bank since the US will consider this loan as cooperation with Rosoboronexport (Russia’s arms exporter) and would impose sanctions against the bank,” Kommersant reported.

“The situation is unpleasant but not critical. We are in constant contact with our Indonesian partners and are looking for ways out this situation,” the newspaper quoted the statement of a source.

In mid-September, the Head of Indonesian Public Communication Center of Ministry of Defense Brigadier General Totok Sugiarto said that the Indonesian Air Forces hoped to receive the first two multi-purpose Su-35 fighters in 2019.

According to him, the delivery would be done in three batches consisting of two, four and five jets.

Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu stated that 50% of the contract value would be paid off by shipment of traditional export goods from Indonesia.

The contract for the supply of 11 Su-35 fighter jets to Indonesia was signed in February 2018. According to unofficial data, its cost is more than $ 1 billion. It was reported that Indonesia would receive a commercial loan from Russia for the purchase of fighters.
- In the letter, Stathakopoulos wrote: "Apple’s proprietary security tools are continuously scanning for precisely this kind of outbound traffic, as it indicates the existence of malware or other malicious activity. Nothing was ever found."
- Speaking at an event to mark the launch of a Fidelity emerging market fund, Ms Devoy noted Australians' extreme financial concentration in the housing market, through direct or super investments in the major banks as well as home ownership and property investment.

While urging more portfolio diversification and admitting that "all of the metrics [in Australia] are telling you this is a massive bubble" — such as high debt-to-income, price-to-income and price-to-rent ratios — Ms Devoy added, "there are huge differences … the differences are incredibly important".

"The Irish central bank was importing monetary policy that was being set for Germany and for France, so we had been experiencing for some years GDP growth of 7 and 8 per cent and we had rates down at 2 and 3 per cent," she said.
- Max Beech began working at a McDonald's store in Queensland when he was 16 and moved to a Brisbane store when he was 18.

He says getting rid of older workers was an "unspoken rule" between managers.

"A lot of the time they talked about how they were trying to get rid of certain people for this reason or that reason — a big one was when people were getting too old," he told 7.30.

"So people turning 18 or 19, they'd start to talk about phasing them out because they were getting too old and they'd have to pay them too much.

"And that was a common thing."
- Alphabet, the parent company of Google, will shut down the Google+ social network after confirming on Monday that data from up to half a million user accounts may have leaked due to a bug in the system.

The company kept quiet about the leak for many months, fearing regulatory intervention. The shutdown will take place over the next 10 months.

The Wall Street Journal  reported that the company kept quiet about the leak which occurred between 2015 and March 2018 when it was found and fixed.
- The Bloomberg story, claiming chips are being implanted by a Chinese contractor on server motherboards sold by US firm Supermicro Computer and being used to spy on some companies, will benefit reporters Jordan Robertson and Michael Riley who wrote it if it holds up under scrutiny.

The company has a practice of paying those higher annual bonuses to those who write stories that move markets, according to a report from Business Insider dating back to 2013.

iTWire contacted Bloomberg for comment about this practice on Monday. The news agency has not yet responded.

The BI report quoted a Bloomberg spokesman as saying: "It isn’t news unless it's true. At Bloomberg News, the most important news is actionable.

"That means we strive to be first to report surprises in markets that change behaviour and we put a premium on reporting that reveals the biggest changes in relative value across all assets.”
The story about chip implants resulted in Lenovo shares falling by as much as 23% across Asia on Friday.

The stocks of ZTE Corporation, China's biggest telecommunications equipment maker, fell by about 14% in Hong Kong trading.

Both Apple and Amazon lost a little less than 2% of their value following the report.

The BI report quoted an ex-Bloomberg employee as saying: “Anyone who moves the markets gets a bonus. Your team gets awards. If you don’t move the market [it’s] like there’s something wrong with you. You don’t get a full bonus.”
- Russia and China are united in one big aim. They want to undermine the West. They want to cut the West down to size so they can increase their own power. It's a very old story in the history of nations.

But they have many differences, too. One difference is becoming clearer by the day.

While Vladimir Putin's Russia is expert at manipulating the US and its systems, Xi Jinping's China is much more ambitious. The Chinese Communist Party wants to own and control those systems. Russia wants to mess with America's world. China wants America's world. And it's making good progress.
- China's ambitious industry plan "Made in China 2025" constitutes a "real existential threat to US technological leadership", according to the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. But of course. That's the whole point.

Beijing already dominates the world trade system, with more than 120 countries counting China as their main trading partner. It's coming to dominate the investment system, too. And its Belt and Road initiative embodies its plan to dominate vital infrastructure over most of the planet.

Not content with Putin's tricky plans for meddling with other people's infrastructure and systems, Xi wants to own them. The question is whether the world can manage to maintain an alternative.
- On the same panel, Salomon Brothers' Henry Kaufmann (aka Dr. Doom), now 91, made the observation that despite deregulation being a major factor in the crisis, it took less than a decade for many to forget. "A financial market deregulated is like a zoo without bars," he said.

As memories of the crisis fade as the economy recovers, we find the seeds of the next crisis are already being planted. They are the exact same issues of debt and mismanaging risk and not understanding our own limitations.

Failing to learn from our prior experiences, we seem doomed to repeat them. We have only ourselves to blame.

The end of the segment featured a short "informational film for Chinese tourists" dubbed in Chinese, which made jokes playing on a variety of racist stereotypes.

"We do not poop outside historic buildings … And if you see someone who's out walking a dog, it's not because they just bought lunch," an actor in the video said.

However SVT said the program had an "anti-racist ambition", and released a full version of the segment with English subtitles to clarify its intention.
- Haley said that while other countries may not like what American now stood for, she said the international community respected it nonetheless.

She cited cutting millions of dollars from the UN budget as one of her core accomplishments in the role, alongside what she called addressing "anti-Israel bias" at the UN. She praised the President's daughter, Ivanka Trump, and his son-in-law, Jared Krushner, calling Kushner a "genius".

She denied she would run for president in 2020.

Haley was appointed to the UN post in November 2016 and last month coordinated Trump's second trip to the United Nations, including his first time chairing the UN Security Council.

Before she was named to the UN post, Haley was governor of South Carolina, the first woman to hold the post. She was re-elected in 2014.

Last month Haley wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post discussing her policy disagreements but also her pride in working for Trump. It came in response to an anonymous essay in The New York Times by a senior administration official that alleged there to be a secret "resistance" effort from the right in Trump's administration and that there were internal discussions of invoking the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office.

"I proudly serve in this administration, and I enthusiastically support most of its decisions and the direction it is taking the country," Haley wrote. "But I don't agree with the President on everything."

Even so, Haley has been a strong advocate of Trump's foreign policy. On her first day as UN ambassador she warned: "For those that don't have our back, we're taking names. We will make points to respond to that accordingly."
