- I switch between roles often and these are some of notes regarding coaching and leading teams:
- ironically, impressing clients and coaching people seems to be similar? Just help people meet their goals will help things a lot of the time? Despite what people say, one big issue seems to be that a lot of people are just trying to scam one another a lot of the time. Hence, people settle for what they can get/have but never really get anywhere in life? Ironically, this is a bigger problem in larger organisations then smaller ones since huge amounts of money and reputations are thrown around?
how to impress clients
Key Takeaways
First impressions begin the moment a client schedules the meeting, with every detail shaping their perception.
Punctuality, preparation, and a clean, professional environment show respect for the client's time and trust.
Rather than leading with your credentials, foster deeper connections by listening with empathy and asking meaningful questions.
Build trust with transparency and follow-through to create the best possible client experience.

truancy rate vs unemployment rate correlation
This paper presents some findings of a study into early adult outcomes of truancy, which was based on the National Child Development Study, a longitudinal survey of all people in Great Britain born in the week 3rd-9th March 1958. It was found that truancy is associated with lower status occupations, less stable career patterns and more unemployment. Among those who were working, former truants' incomes were not lower, but they were considerably less well off once their family situation was taken into account. Differences remained after controlling for the effects of social background, educational ability, poor attendance due to other reasons, and end-of-school qualifications. The authors conclude that truancy is a predictor of employment problems, and of a more severe kind than will be experienced by others who share the disadvantaged background and low attainment which typify the truant.

sickies statistics
A new survey has shed some light on the impacts of absenteeism in Australia and abroad.
According to a survey by Direct Health Solutions, Australian employees are taking almost ten sick days per year.
This is costing organisations around the country $3,230 per employee, and a record $33bn in payroll costs and lost productivity.
But Australia isn't the only national workforce with a high rate of absences.
PwC reported that in the UK, workers took 9.1 days of unscheduled absence over the past year.
Canadian employees took 9.1 days, up from 8 days in the previous year.
Meanwhile, Irish workers took 6.4 days of unscheduled leave, with US employees used 4.9 days. In Asia, the average number was a comparatively miniscule 2.2 days, while in New Zealand, workers took just 4.5 days.

- behaviour of staff in the workforce is often indicative of their past environments. Makes sense but there are enormous problems associated with this perspective. Most organisations, schools, businesses, etc... don't have people with genuine empathy or full time psychologists/counsellers/social workers who understand other people's backgrounds and can help them in the way that people need to be helped? Moreover, most people are just trying to earn their living and perform arbitrary policies and procedures. There's very little room and resources in most organisations, schools, businesses, socities, etc... to help people with life issues?

In Japan, where isolation and emotional distance can quietly affect many lives, one man has created a gentle and unusual service—"rent-a-dad." Through this heartfelt offering, he's hired by people of all ages to step in as a father figure, offering warmth, support, or simply quiet presence. His clients don't seek formal counseling—they come for hugs, someone to clap during a graduation photo, or a calm voice to talk to over lunch.
He's been asked to attend milestone events, walk someone down an aisle, or give advice in a moment of doubt. For some, it's about healing old wounds—recreating experiences they missed with their own fathers. For others, it's about creating new memories with someone who won't judge, correct, or pressure them. His service is structured with boundaries: no overstepping, no false promises. It's about being present, sincerely and respectfully, for whatever role a person needs filled—if only for an hour or two.
What makes his service so powerful isn't the act itself, but the quiet honesty behind it. Loneliness in Japan often carries a cultural weight of silence. By offering this unique connection, even temporarily, he opens space for people to feel seen, celebrated, or simply cared for without shame.
"Rent-a-dad" might sound unusual at first, but in a world full of quiet gaps, it's a simple offering that fills them—with empathy, memory, and human warmth.

- one interesting thing for me is that people rarely tell the truth to themselves or to others? If you were to ask a lazy employee if they were lazy or a manager whether they were out of touch they'd rarely believe this or what the biggest problems that they face they're often wrong? Another thing I've found is that they rarely understand the biggest issues that they face, how to get it fixed, where to get help, etc... It sometimes takes a third party or a fresh perspective to see things correctly (which is the reason why consultants are so popular?)?

- one thing I didn't realise is how limited the toolbox was for behaviour modification? Most toolboxes I've seen resolves around positive stimulus for good behaviour and negative/no negative stimulus for bad behaviour most of the time and variations or mixtures of this. If they can't imprint against someone properly who has genuine emphathy I've figured out that some students, employees react badly so they go into flight, freeze, or fight mode. What's awkward about this can it be modified in a timeframe that makes sense for the student/employee and/or school/employer/organisation?

- you find the least coercive method to get them to do what you want. Try to be honest when you can as it makes things easier. Change recruitment strategies as it's easier then behavioural change a lot of the time (much easier if you're dealing with a high turner/contractor environment to see if your strategies pay off)? One thing I've noticed that people from families, organisations, companies, etc... who don't have a good balance between positive and negative stimulus often have "wierd behaviour" like being overly jovial (often from wealthier or easier backgrounds) or overly depressed/angry (often from poorer or more difficult backgrounds)? An interesting thing from religion, alternate social structures, the Cold War, etc... that I've taken is that it doesn't always come down to money? Sometimes people want something else and hopefully and you can find a way to grant that to them if they do well?

Behavioural modification relies on the concept of conditioning or learning. There are two types of conditioning:
Classical conditioning: It relies on a particular stimulus or signal.
Operant conditioning: It involves using a system of rewards or punishments.
The modification techniques include:
1) Positive reinforcement means pairing a positive stimulus to behaviour.
2) Negative reinforcement means modifying a behaviour leading to the removal of a negative stimulus.
3) Punishment is designed to weaken behaviours by giving an unpleasant stimulus to behaviour.
4) Flooding involves exposing people to fear involving objects or stimulus situations intensely and rapidly.
5) Systematic desensitization involves teaching a client to remain calm while focussing on fears.
6) Aversion therapy is pairing an unpleasant stimulus to an unwanted behaviour in order to eliminate the behaviour.
7) Extinction is the removal of all reinforcement that might be associated with behaviour.

Overview of the Stages of Change
Anyone who has ever broken a New Year's resolution can appreciate the difficulty of behavior change. Making a lasting behavior change is rarely a simple process. It usually involves a substantial commitment of time, effort, and emotion. The stages of change (or transtheoretical) model seeks to explain and effect such change, and the science says it works in many cases.
When changing a behavior, people typically go through the following stages:
1) Precontemplation, where they often ignore or deny the problem
2) Contemplation, where they weigh the pros and cons of making a change
3) Preparation, where they decide what they'll do to make the change
4) Action, where they take steps toward the goal
5) Maintenance, where they stick with it for the long term
6) Relapse, where mistakes and setbacks happen, and people must decide whether to keep going
Each of these is discussed in more detail below.
Understanding this process can help you prepare to take these steps, decide how to tackle them, and follow through on your goals.

star method of answering questions
What is the STAR method?
The STAR method stands for situation, task, action, result and provides a framework to deliver detailed responses during job interviews. Here's how each component works.
= Situation: describe a time where you performed a task or faced a challenge at work.
= Task: explain what the situation specifically required you to do to overcome the challenge.
= Action: detail how you tackled the above problem. Emphasise the steps you took to address the challenge, highlighting your skills and positive personal attributes.
= Result: share the outcome – a sale, a problem solved, a lesson learned, or praise from your team.

- based on what I've seen a lot of recruitment processes are poor and ultimately people hire whoever they like (I've been on both sides of the question so know how this works)? A lot of organisations need to clean this process up in a way to make more sense rather then just using templates or playing the game of follow the leader of other organisations? Humans are all playing a dodgy game but few will admit to it?

- one big thing I've learnt is that you should try avoid blaming people (and even animals) for stuff not their fault. It often breeds disrespect, insolence, contempt, and doesn't fix the problem (ironically, most places I've seen deal with by simply suppressing this but not fixing the problem?). If you're realing with a technical problem deal with it from that perspective, if you're dealing with a behavioural issue you deal with it from that perspective, if you have a process related issue you deal with it from that perspective, etc... There's a difference between a blame vs improvement culture but a lot of organistions seem to misunderstand this? Simply blaming low performance on laziness is the most common mistake I see from parents, managers, teachers, etc... and they often neglect to figure out whether any medical issues are at play, the key drivers of particular Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), whether or not it's genuinely possible to overcome this barrier, etc... Highly destructive just searching for performance without realising what the root cause is? Ironically, I've often found that supposed high performers have often been cheating in some way which is the reason they had to hide their strategies/methods? Improper performance acquisition methods have similar effects as a witch hunt? Natural hierarchal structures (that people are willing to acquiesce to such as between babies and parents) are more likely to succeed then enforced ones long term?

The dumb thing is that even at organisations with seemingly limitless resources they often don't make the best of what they have and just pour bad money into already massive dumpters of other bad money just to say that the money hasn't been wasted and something will come of it?

Government agencies traditionally used outsource operators to cope with fluctuating demands in their services or to access a specialised skill set, before the practice ramped up under Coalition governments, according to the CPSU.
Many agencies now appear hesitant, or unable, to unwind them.
Emmanuel Josserand, a professor of management and adjunct fellow at the University of Technology Sydney said government agencies become reliant on outsource models for services like call centres because they appear to represent a cost saving.
"There's a bit of an illusion there that you will get the same results with a lower cost through a company that is hiring staff and making a profit," said Josserand.
"All you have done is transformed stable well-paid jobs into high pressure, lower paid jobs, while providing profit for the company that is making their margin by paying workers less."
Guardian Australia has reported extensively on the experience of the ATO's outsource call centre workers, who argue that despite having the same duties, systems access and confidentiality requirements as public sector employees, the pay disparity, lack of training and inferior working conditions are extreme.
Other agencies, including Centrelink and the National Disability Insurance Agency, also use privatised call centres.
One outsource worker on the ATO call lines has lodged a "same job, same pay" application with the Fair Work Commission, drawing on the Albanese government's workplace reforms designed to stop employers using labour hire to pay workers less than direct employees.
"Maybe they cut costs on the phone lines of the ATO, but we end up with a service of lesser quality, and a lesser contribution to the economy because it doesn't result in quality jobs," said Josserand.
"These companies, whether they're consultants or call centres, are really, really good sales organisations and it's easy to be lured in."

Unfortunately, the human way of life is highly gamified and simplified but often wrong so often people don't get what they deserve (regardless of position in society)?

- another thing I've been exploring is whether or not you can just have robots in public or workplace that are just able to "read people" and respond in a way that actually helps? Namely, watching people for long enough in public areas whether or not they may have problems and whether not we can do anything to help? You don't have to go as far as what happens in science fiction. In the context of the workplace this is interesting because most people managers I've seen are hapless? They can only tell you to make money money, go faster, hit particular Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), etc... but not much beyond that. It's actually prety rare to find genuinely competant and honest people out there at any level? One of the biggest problems in most social situations I've seen is reading the situation correctly?

- I've found that people will hate you if they think what you are sharing is not helpful or fair? Maximise what you have but try to be realistic. Do not try to encourage someone nicknamed "Shorty" to play like Shaquille O'Neal or Lebron James? It's very difficult and likely impossible for them to emulate? Do this for long enough it will demoralise your work force and people will leave or just in a state of perpetual unhappiness (if they're stuck)?

- lack of empathy as well as too much empathy creates enormous problems. You need to be able to work within the bounds of what you have? I've seen managers, teachers, parents, etc... try to explain limitations to people who came from privileged/luckier backgrounds which didn't go well and the converse to people from less well off backgrounds. In either case, they didn't seem to understand who they were dealing with or how to deal it. It's almost like you have to be a part time psychologist at times to be able to deal with life at times?

Random Quotes:
- It remains verboten to ask the following question, without recriminations and charges of racism, that is: after all the programs, affirmative action efforts, welfare distributions, and other efforts to redress economic inequality in the US, is it possible that the persistent wealth disparity between whites and blacks has less to do with historical slavery than it does with more proximate causes, such as contemporary policies and politics, including the Democratic Party-led welfare program that effectively paid black American unwed mothers when the fathers of their children absconded from their homes, thus destroying the black family and creating a culture of failure?
Because no existing black American suffered slavery, and few living white Americans benefited from it, reparations make absolutely no sense to most Americans, and rightly so. Johnson's charge that reparations have been denied because white Americans are "insensitive" and unwilling to "atone" for their crimes is ludicrous. Atone for what, exactly? For crimes they didn't commit and for benefits that they did not receive. And one can't be extorted for feelings or unwillingness to beg for forgiveness, even if such feelings and unwillingness persist generally among whites, which is quite doubtful.
If black Americans want reparations, they should locate the descendants of the owners of black slaves, and, with Johnson's help and money, bring a class action suit against them for denied wages, suffering, and historical immiseration.

- The murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police has sparked several days of protests, including the burning of a police precinct on Thursday night.
In solidarity with protestors, union bus drivers in Minneapolis signed a petition and refused to transport police officers and arrested protestors to jail on Thursday, PayDay Report first reported and independently confirmed by Motherboard. At one bus garage in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday evening, some workers refused to drive buses that were being dispatched to transport police officers.
"We are willing to do what we can to ensure our labor is not used to help the Minneapolis Police Department shut down calls for justice," the petition reads. "For example, I am a bus driver with ATU 1005, and I urged people to call MetroTransit and the Governor the second I heard our buses and members were being organized to make mass arrests hours before the protests escalated."
On Thursday, the city of Minneapolis shut down its light rail and bus services out of concern for employee and rider safety.
More than 400 union workers, including Minneapolis postal workers, nurses, teachers, and hotel workers have signed the petition posted on the Facebook group Union Members for #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd pledging not to aid the policing of the protests with their labor, according to Adam Birch, a Minneapolis bus driver who wrote the petition.

- "At that time, no one assumed that anything could be done contrary to what the US willed. Imam Khomeini proved that superpowers are not invincible. We witnessed what happened to the Soviet Union. And today we are watching the US and see what is transpiring there," Ayatollah Khamenei said, adding Imam Khomeini taught the masses how these big powers can be overcome.
The Leader also addressed the far-and-wide protests that have engulfed the United States in the aftermath of the gruesome killing of African American citizen George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis.
Ayatollah Khamenei said what the US has come face to face with today in the form of the protests "is a result of the realities that had always been kept concealed," and have now risen to the surface causing disgrace for the American administration.
The brutality that was exercised on Floyd is what the United States has been sowing all around the world, the Leader stated, saying, "They have done the same in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Vietnam, & many other countries."
"This is the US government's nature and character that is being exposed today."
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the "I Can't Breathe" slogan that the American protesters were chanting all across the United States during the protests and called it "the heartfelt words of all nations against which the US has committed many atrocities."

- "The problem with Australia is that whilst it might handle adversity very well, it doesn't handle prosperity very well at all," says Steve Miller, Black Rock's departing head of Fixed Income.
Nothing could be more true of the past 26 years of continuous economic growth in Australia. Built on the back of the Hawke and Keating governments' response to Australia's last economic crisis, we have been the envy of the world.
But not any more, because within these past 26 years has been prosperity: Australia's largest mining boom, pouring surplus income into government coffers, and wasted by the Howard-Costello government on unsustainable transfer payments (read the Baby Bonus), PAYE tax cuts, unsustainable uncapped superannuation retirement benefits and temporary fuel tax indexation reductions, all done for short-term political advantage.
There's nothing to show for future generations except a narrow-cast Future Fund to offset Commonwealth unfunded superannuation liabilities. No sovereign wealth fund to fund infrastructure, no investment in education, no significant investment in research and development.

- In the wake of George Floyd's death that occurred under the knee of a white cop, leftist groups are demanding police departments be abolished. If they succeed, problems for whites and minorities will have just begun.
As the protests over the death of Floyd continue to mount, the American people are awakening to scenarios impossible to have imagined when they went to bed. On Tuesday, for example, anarchists and Antifa, claiming the moral high ground, seized six city blocks in Democrat-ruled Seattle, declaring the lawless, cop-free land an "autonomous zone."
Sympathizers for the hostile takeover make it sound as though they have just brought a mellow, peace-loving Woodstock festival to town. One attendee gushed over the "unreal energy there – organizers are protecting the barricades by sitting peacefully… People listening to music and talking. It's wonderful."
...
Not satisfied with enlarging their zone, the activists took over the Seattle City Hall on Tuesday, accompanied by councilwoman Kshama Sawant, a socialist, and demanded the resignation of Mayor Jenny Durkan, a Democrat.
They also released a long list of demands, some apparently reasonable – the release of everyone serving time for marijuana offenses, for example – and others patently absurd, such as the abolition of police, courts and immigration enforcement.
There is something ironic, of course, about their first action being to build a "wall" to protect their territory...

- The Black Lives Matter protests have sparked a look-back at important people's histories, but the newspapers and media who report on all of this have the same skeletons in their closets.
Britain is divided by its legacy, best displayed right now by Sir Winston Churchill. To some he's the hero who masterminded the war effort and to others, he's an example of abhorrent racism for his belief in using poison gas to kill "uncivilised tribes" and also for his role in the Bengal famine that saw three million die.
Churchill is just the latest in what has become statue-gate, kicked off by Edward Colston's effigy being thrown in a river. These are inanimate objects and by definition only relateto one person, whose life and times are there to be judged.
It's not so simple to analyse the media.
Britain has the biggest newspaper market in the world, where the press have long wieldedmuch power and been afforded respect by the population. However, their own past certainly raises a few unpalatable truths.
Take the famous BBC, the one British brand that the country is almost universally proud of and the biggest news website in the world in terms of visitors. It stands for balanced and fair journalism. It stands for freedom of speech and respect. If the BBC says something, that carries heft.
However, its first director-general was a Nazi sympathizer.
John Reith wasn't ashamed to admit it either. Writing about the Night of the Long Kniveswhen Hitler exterminated 85 opponents who were obstructing his power, he said: "I really admire the way Hitler has cleaned up what looked like an incipient revolt. I really admire the drastic actions taken, which were obviously badly needed."
His praise for Hitler included the statement: "I am pretty certain ... that the Nazis will clean things up and put Germany on the way to being a real power in Europe again."
His fondness also extended to Fascist despot Benito Mussolini. He commented: "I have always admired Mussolini immensely and constantly hailed him as the outstanding example of accomplishing high democratic purpose by which, though not democratic, were the only possibleones."
Due to his views of these men, Reith didn't like Churchill and tried to keep him off the BBC so he couldn't disseminate his war cries.
Another Nazi sympathiser was Harold Sidney Harmsworth. He wrote to and visited Hitleron several occasions, including sending a telegram after the invasion of Sudetenland addressed to 'Adolf the Great'.
He also used his newspaper, the Daily Mail, to publicly back the British Union of Fascists.
Harmsworth even authored an editorial titled 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts', which was the nickname for the BUF – and praised their much-hated leader Oswald Mosley.
While the Daily Mail still has right-wing leanings, the Guardian sits on the opposite side of the fence. It's liberal and very much in tune with campaigns like Black Lives Matter. There's the stereotype that all Guardian readers wear sandals and are vegan.
But the paper was founded by John Edward Taylor, who made his money from a cotton plantation that used slaves.
The publication also took the position to stand with the southern confederates in the battlewith Abraham Lincoln's bid to abolish slavery.
A piece it ran stated: "It was an evil day both for America and the world when he was chosen President of the United States."
A change.org petition to shut down the Guardian on these grounds is racking up signatures.
And by the logic of the protesters trying to tear down anything and everything with roots in historic racism, all of these – the BBC, the Mail, the Guardian – should go the way of Colston.
But the paradox is, without the papers and the BBC we wouldn't even know which statues to tear down – or defend.
The media still play a central role in British society. They spark off debates, offer a platform to commentators, impact on elections and inform millions of opinions. And they should remain so.
The Daily Mail is one of the best-selling newspapers, shifting over a million copies daily pre-coronavirus. A glance at commuters on their phones or workers at their desks, frequently shows the BBC website being browsed – it had a record 1.5 billion visits in March of this year alone. The Guardian had 435 million online visits in the same period.
Just like the statues, they all fuel controversy – and if we topple the statues, the honest next move is to topple the paper stands. And if we do that, what will we be left with?
Choice of opinion is a luxury we shouldn't take for granted, even if that opinion is standing on toxic foundations. Tearing down monuments or media risks taking that luxury away.

'Bit of an illusion'
