Empathy is generally described as the ability to perceive another person's perspective, to understand, feel, and possibly share and respond to their experience.[1][2][3] There are other (sometimes conflicting) definitions of empathy that include but are not limited to social, cognitive, and emotional processes primarily concerned with understanding others.[2][3][4] Empathy is often considered to be a broad term, and can be divided into more specific concepts and categories, such as cognitive empathy, emotional (or affective) empathy, somatic empathy, and spiritual empathy.[2][3]
Empathy is still a topic being studied. The major areas of research include the development of empathy, the genetics and neuroscience of empathy, cross-species empathy, and the impairment of empathy. Some researchers have attempted to quantify empathy through different methods, such as questionnaires that participants can fill out and then be scored on their answers.
The ability to imagine oneself as another person is a sophisticated process. However, the basic capacity to recognize emotions in others may be innate[5] and may be achieved unconsciously. Empathy exists on a spectrum, an individual can be more or less empathetic toward another individual and empirical research supports a variety of interventions that are able to improve empathy.[6]
The English word empathy is derived from the Ancient Greek ἐμπάθεια (empatheia, meaning "physical affection or passion").[7] That word derives from ἐν (en, "in, at") and πάθος (pathos, "passion" or "suffering").[8] Theodor Lipps adapted the German aesthetic term Einfühlung ("feeling into") to psychology in 1903,[9]: ch. 1  and Edward B. Titchener translated Einfühlung into English as "empathy" in 1909.[10] In modern Greek εμπάθεια may mean depending on the context, prejudice, malevolence, malice, or hatred.[11]

The dark triad is a psychological theory of personality, first published by Delroy L. Paulhus and Kevin M. Williams in 2002.[1] According to this theory, there are three personality types that are notably offensive but non-pathological personality types: Machiavellianism, sub-clinical narcissism, and sub-clinical psychopathy.[2][3][4][5] Each of these personality types is called dark because each is considered to contain malevolent qualities.[2][6][7][8]
All three dark triad traits are conceptually distinct although empirical evidence shows them to be overlapping. They are associated with a callous–manipulative interpersonal style.[9]

Psychopathy is characterized by continuous antisocial behavior, impulsivity, selfishness, callous and unemotional traits (CU),[13] and remorselessness.[14]
High scores in these traits have been found to statistically increase a person's likelihood to commit crimes, cause social distress, and create severe problems for organizations, especially if they are in leadership positions.[15] They also tend to be less compassionate, agreeable, empathetic, and satisfied with their lives, and less likely to believe they and others are good.[16] However, the same traits are also associated with some positive outcomes, such as mental toughness and being more likely to embrace challenges.[17]
A factor analysis found that among the big five personality traits, low agreeableness is the strongest correlate of the dark triad, while neuroticism and a lack of conscientiousness were associated with some of the dark triad members.[12] Research indicates that there is a consistent association between changes in agreeableness and the dark triad traits over the course of an individual's life.[18]

Social movements have much greater awareness of infiltration efforts and may take protective actions such as screening new members and even, as with the Black Panthers at one point, simply stop recruiting new members. It has even been suggested that movements use face-recognition technology to identify police, since police use this in crowd settings. The movement may engage in counter-intelligence activities directed toward social control agents.
The reciprocal efforts of social movements to control those who wish to control them have rarely been studied. Rather than passive recipients, movements are better viewed as actors in a dynamic process. The playing fields are not level but new means of surveillance and communication such as the computer, cell phone and video camera may help activists in defensive and offensive responses to social control efforts.
Contemporary movements, with a decentralized cell-like structure and those based on tribal and religious affiliation (as is particularly the case in African and Asia), are more difficult to infiltrate than open mass movements with a more heterogeneous social base and universalistic ideology. Ironically the openness of democratic movements and their interest in broad communication with the public makes them vulnerable to infiltration and overt surveillance.
The provocateur is better seen as one extreme type of the much larger category of the faux activist. Such hidden-agenda activists are other than what they appear to be. They may engage in a wide variety of actions � from seeking to damage a social movement to helping it or redirecting it away from illegal actions (agents conformistes.) At the level of abstract analysis a distinction must be made between the active participant (whether in legal and/or illegal behavior) and the more passive, observing bystander merely relaying information. However, given the need to establish their legitimacy and to learn anything in depth, it is difficult for a faux activist to simply remain an observer.
Faux activists may work for national or local police or the military, domestic or foreign governments, private interest groups, or rival social movements (whether those on the same side or those with opposing goals.) They may work as free-lancers such as investigative journalists, social scientists, and as individuals on an ideological mission or hoping to peddle what they discover. In recent years there appears to have been a significant increase in the use of faux activists by private corporations responding to challenges from globalization, environmental, anti-nuclear, and animal rights movements. (Lubbers 2012) There are also new hybrid forms blurring the line between state and private control organizations.

Fr Antony Sebastian, founder of Echo, an NGO working for the welfare of juveniles, says that in the absence of JJBs, children lose not just the protection guaranteed to them by law, but also the chance to reform.
"These children largely come from poor backgrounds and dysfunctional families, and they grow up witnessing violence and scarcity. When the police beat them and dump them in jails, they're revictimised all over again," says Fr Sebastian, a former principal magistrate on two separate JJBs in Bengaluru city.
For minors not sent to jail, there isn't much scope for reformation in child care institutions (facilities that house children in conflict with the law), says Deeksha Gujral, programme director at iProbono, which offers legal aid to vulnerable people.
JJBs can send children accused of crimes to observation homes, while those found to have committed an offence are placed in special homes. A separate facility, called a 'place of safety', houses children aged 16-18 years who are accused or found guilty of committing heinous offences.
JJBs are mandated to inspect these facilities every month to ensure they meet the standards prescribed by law. However, many children's rights advocates say that regular checks seldom happen and even if they do, they're conducted in a superficial manner.

The yips are involuntary wrist spasms that occur most commonly when golfers are trying to putt. However, the yips also can affect people who play other sports.

In sports, the yips are a sudden and unexplained loss of ability to execute certain skills in experienced athletes. Symptoms of the yips are losing fine motor skills and psychological issues that impact the muscle memory and decision-making of athletes, leaving them unable to perform basic skills of their sport.
The exact cause of the yips is still not fully understood. A yips episode may last a short time before the athlete regains their abilities or it can require longer term adjustments to technique before recovery occurs. The worst cases are those where the athlete does not recover at all, forcing the player to abandon the sport at the highest level.
There have been a plethora of treatment options tested to ameliorate the yips, including clinical sport psychology therapy, motor imagery, pre-performance routines, medication, botulinum toxin, acupuncture, and emotional freedom techniques. However, their possible effectiveness is primarily based on personal experience rather than well-founded research evidence.[citation needed] Early intervention with a thorough treatment plan is imperative for recovery of athletes with yips.[1]

The study measured odour levels against exposure time, and found that just 2–3 minutes of UVC treatment was sufficient to kill the bacteria and eliminate the foul smell. It was not simple: too much light meant too much heat which ended up burning the shoe rubber.

- The Department of Veterans Affairs has reportedly been deluged with dubious disability claims, including tens of millions of dollars worth of fraud, as claims for easily treated ailments have skyrocketed.
Claims across a variety of categories have increased sharply in the past two-and-a-half decades, according to government data obtained by The Washington Post, even as the overall population of veterans has declined by nearly 10 million during that time period.
About 556,000 ex-service members get disability benefits for eczema, 332,000 get payments for hemorrhoids, 110,000 are eligible thanks to benign skin growths, while 81,000 get payments for acne, according to the investigation.
Last year, 659,335 got payments for sleep apnea, a commonly treated condition, about 11 times the figure who did so in 2009. The agency now typically pays more to vets with this condition than those who have had leg amputations below the knee due to combat, per the outlet.
These numbers dwarf the number of payments going out to veterans for more clearly combat related injuries, including the roughly 11,000 getting benefits for severe or penetrating brain injuries, or the fewer than 1,700 getting benefits for losing limbs during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In veterans circles, according to the investigation, it's not uncommon for people to be encouraged to claim as many disabilities as possible, and the department pays for thousands of former soldiers' jock itch, toe nail fungus, hair loss treatments, and other issues that don't clearly hinder employment.
Since 2001, the number of disabilities claimed per injured veteran has doubled, as has the number of veterans claiming a 100 percent disabled rating.

Enter NiTinol+ a combination material of Nickel and Titanium. The tight molecular structure allows the tyre to flex and deform and then return to the original shape over and over. - Now, researchers have examined data from the US and seven other countries to estimate the percentage of premature, preventable deaths due to the consumption of UPFs like packaged snacks, sugary drinks, processed meats and sweetened breakfast cereals, the New York Post reports.
"We looked at the risk of a person dying from eating more ultra-processed foods between the ages of 30 and 69, a time when it would be premature to die," study co-author Carlos Augusto Monteiro, emeritus professor of nutrition and public health in the School of Public Health at Brazil's University of São Paulo, told CNN.
Monteiro's team found that the risk of early death rises by nearly 3 per cent for every 10 per cent increase in calories from UPFs.
The findings were published Monday in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in an article titled, "Premature Mortality Attributable to Ultraprocessed Food Consumption in 8 Countries".
Prior research has linked UPFs to 32 negative health outcomes, including elevated risks of heart disease, cancer, Type 2 diabetes and mental health woes.
