Alternative (Food) Diets, Random Stuff, and More

- one thing I've been exploring of late is how much a different diet can impact your health outcomes and life. Obviously, there are rough guidelines for what healthy means but I define it as being not likely to have any illness, being able to go about work/chores, being able to engage in sports and play with your kids, etc... Can't really define what healthy means as different people have different makeups but there are some commonalities between people. Have to scan/get baseline on people's bodies before proceeding? Unique diets required to fix same problem for different people? Makes sense as all bodies may be similar but technically unique?

Vital signs (also known as vitals) are a group of the four to six most crucial medical signs that indicate the status of the body's vital (life-sustaining) functions. These measurements are taken to help assess the general physical health of a person, give clues to possible diseases, and show progress toward recovery.[1][2] The normal ranges for a person's vital signs vary with age, weight, gender, and overall health.[3]
There are four primary vital signs: body temperature, blood pressure, pulse (heart rate), and breathing rate (respiratory rate), often notated as BT, BP, HR, and RR. However, depending on the clinical setting, the vital signs may include other measurements called the "fifth vital sign" or "sixth vital sign."
Early warning scores have been proposed that combine the individual values of vital signs into a single score. This was done in recognition that deteriorating vital signs often precede cardiac arrest and/or admission to the intensive care unit. Used appropriately, a rapid response team can assess and treat a deteriorating patient and prevent adverse outcomes.[4][5][6]

- low carb/no-carb diet seems to be in vogue at the moment. You can buy carb blocking tablets/white kidney bean but not very effective. Only ~1-2kg loss over 3months? All carbs are sugars put together differently. Hence, body sees sugar, starch, etc... as the same. Artificial sweeteners were all accidentally discovered and almost as dangerous as sugar/normal carbs. Until humans can create other humans from scratch you can't really say humans understand the core science of their own bodies?

Abstract
This year, more than 1 million Americans and more than 10 million people worldwide are expected to be diagnosed with cancer, a disease commonly believed to be preventable. Only 5–10% of all cancer cases can be attributed to genetic defects, whereas the remaining 90–95% have their roots in the environment and lifestyle. The lifestyle factors include cigarette smoking, diet (fried foods, red meat), alcohol, sun exposure, environmental pollutants, infections, stress, obesity, and physical inactivity. The evidence indicates that of all cancer-related deaths, almost 25–30% are due to tobacco, as many as 30–35% are linked to diet, about 15–20% are due to infections, and the remaining percentage are due to other factors like radiation, stress, physical activity, environmental pollutants etc. Therefore, cancer prevention requires smoking cessation, increased ingestion of fruits and vegetables, moderate use of alcohol, caloric restriction, exercise, avoidance of direct exposure to sunlight, minimal meat consumption, use of whole grains, use of vaccinations, and regular check-ups. In this review, we present evidence that inflammation is the link between the agents/factors that cause cancer and the agents that prevent it. In addition, we provide evidence that cancer is a preventable disease that requires major lifestyle changes.

- One Meal A Day (OMAD) which is basically a variation of intermittent fasting. There's also Two Meals A Day (TMAD) as well. It basically works on the premise that keeping insuline level low and consuming food in a small time space gives more time for the body to digest whatever food you've eaten. OMAD and TMAD means exactly that with no snacking allowed between the meals since this has similar effect to grazing (like ruminant animals in the fields who eat grass all day like cows)

The OMAD diet explained
Essentially, the OMAD diet is a type of intermittent fasting, where you fast for 23 hours and consume all your daily calories in one meal eaten within one hour.
The OMAD diet rules are presented as simple and easy to follow:

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are plants, animals, or microorganisms whose genetic makeup is artificially modified or altered. Individual genes can be introduced from one organism to another across species. GMOs have several purposes including resistance to certain environmental conditions, pests, and diseases or resistance to chemicals such as herbicides. Some crops are genetically modified to increase their value. Despite biotech industry promises, no evidence shows any GMOs currently on the market showing increased yield, enhanced nutrition, drought tolerance, or any other consumer benefit. The safety of GMOs is generally unknown. There is a lack of credible independent long-term feeding studies. An increasing number of people around the world are choosing to eat organic and non-GMO products.
Only 64 countries around the world require genetically modified foods to be labeled. These countries include all of the European Union (EU) members, Australia, and Japan, among others. GMOs are not currently labeled in the United States or Canada; however, some products will start to be labeled in the United States thanks to the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard (NBFDS). The vast majority of crops in North America are genetically modified. Most commonly, packaged foods made from sugar, corn, soy, and canola are genetically modified. Livestock, agriculture, and aquaculture products are also considered to be high-risk for GMOs. Because over 80% of GMO crops grown around the world have been engineered for herbicide tolerance, resulting in a significant increase in the use of toxic herbicides, increasing its negative impact on the environment and human health. Several countries around the world have banned the use of GMOs.
In the European Union the following countries have banned GMOS: France, Germany, Austria, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Poland, Denmark, Malta, Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia. In Africa, Algeria and Madagascar have banned GMOs, and in Asia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Bhutan, and Saudi Arabia. Finally, in the Americas, Belize, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela have all banned GMOs. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (also PFAS,[1] PFASs,[2] and informally referred to as "forever chemicals"[3][4]) are a group of synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds that have multiple fluorine atoms attached to an alkyl chain; there are 7 million known such chemicals according to PubChem.[5] PFAS came into use with the invention of Teflon in 1938 to make fluoropolymer coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. They are now used in products including waterproof fabric such as nylon, yoga pants, carpets, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, mobile phone screens, wall paint, furniture, adhesives, food packaging, firefighting foam, and the insulation of electrical wires.[6][7][8] PFAS are also used by the cosmetic industry in most cosmetics and personal care products, including lipstick, eye liner, mascara, foundation, concealer, lip balm, blush, and nail polish.[9][10]
Many PFAS such as PFOS and PFOA pose health and environmental concerns because they are persistent organic pollutants; they were branded as "forever chemicals" in an article in The Washington Post in 2018.[11] Some have half-lives of over eight years in the body, due to a carbon-fluorine bond, one of the strongest in organic chemistry.[12][13][14][15][16] They move through soils and bioaccumulate in fish and wildlife, which are then eaten by humans. Residues are now commonly found in rain, drinking water, and wastewater.[12][17][18][7] Since PFAS compounds are highly mobile, they are readily absorbed through human skin and through tear ducts, and such products on lips are often unwittingly ingested.[19] Due to the large number of PFAS, it is challenging to study and assess the potential human health and environmental risks; more research is necessary and is ongoing.[20][12][21][6]
Exposure to PFAS, some of which have been classified as carcinogenic and/or as endocrine disruptors, has been linked to cancers such as kidney, prostate and testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, suboptimal antibody response / decreased immunity, decreased fertility, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, reduced infant and fetal growth and developmental issues in children, obesity, dyslipidemia (abnormally high cholesterol), and higher rates of hormone interference.[6][22][23]
The use of PFAS has been regulated internationally by the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants since 2009, with some jurisdictions, such as China and the European Union, planning further reductions and phase-outs. However, major producers and users such as the United States, Israel, and Malaysia have not ratified the agreement and the chemical industry has lobbied governments to reduce regulations[24] or moved production to countries such as Thailand, where there is less regulation.[25][26]
The market for PFAS was estimated to be US$28 billion in 2023 and the majority are produced by 12 companies: 3M, AGC Inc., Archroma, Arkema, BASF, Bayer, Chemours, Daikin, Honeywell, Merck Group, Shandong Dongyue Chemical, and Solvay.[27] Sales of PFAS, which cost approximately $20 per kilogram, generate a total industry profit of $4 billion per year on 16% profit margins.[28] Due to health concerns, several companies have ended or plan to end the sale of PFAS or products that contain them; these include W. L. Gore & Associates (the maker of Gore-Tex), H&M, Patagonia, REI, and 3M.[29][30][31][32][33][34] PFAS producers have paid billions of dollars to settle litigation claims, the largest being a $10.3 billion settlement paid by 3M for water contamination in 2023.[35] Studies have shown that companies have known of the health dangers since the 1970s – DuPont and 3M were aware that PFAS was "highly toxic when inhaled and moderately toxic when ingested".[36] External costs, including those associated with remediation of PFAS from soil and water contamination, treatment of related diseases, and monitoring of PFAS pollution, may be as high as US$17.5 trillion annually, according to ChemSec.[28] The Nordic Council of Ministers estimated health costs to be at least €52–84 billion in the European Economic Area.[37] In the United States, PFAS-attributable disease costs are estimated to be $6–62 billion.[38][39]
In January 2025, reports stated that the cost of cleaning up toxic PFAS pollution in the UK and Europe could exceed £1.6 trillion over the next 20 years, averaging £84 billion annually.[40]

I for one ask myself a few of questions. Firstly, how come a transaction that should be worth $1 million of the $30 million his department paid for the land manages to escape the eyes of the minister? Secondly, when he found out that the buyers were Liberal donors why didn't he abort it?, and thirdly, did any of the money find its way back into Liberal Party coffers?

- Seun Kuti, scion of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti has told those who care to listen, that Africans were responsible for the sales of other Africans into slavery during the era of slave trade.
Taking to his Instagram page on Thursday, the vocal singer showed excerpts from the popular book, "The African Slave Trade" which shows a letter written by the King of Congo to the Europeans in 1526 over the slave trade after he noticed that his noblemen were being turned into slaves.
In the post, Seun pointed out that the main problem is that until this day, the families of the ancestors who sold others into slavery still control the wealth and it is quite unfortunate no one has been able hold them accountable for the crimes they committed in the past.
Seun wrote; "This is a letter written by Afonso, formerly Nzinga a Mvemba, the king of Bukango (now Congo) after Europeanizing himself and hoping for development.
"This was in 1526 and we are still begging for help after falling prey and trusting the untrustworthy! Also when u say 'Africans sold other Africans into slavery' how does this letter make u feel?
"African traitors sold other Africans and the problem is that till today, they control the wealth they made and we haven't held them accountable.

The Windrush scandal is a 2018 British political scandal concerning people who were wrongly detained, denied legal rights, threatened with deportation, and, in at least 83 cases,[1][2][3] wrongly deported from the UK by the Home Office. And right up to the 1970s, police took part in the removal of huge numbers of indigenous children from their homes, to be adopted by white families or put in institutions.
The forcible removal of indigenous children from their families was a result of various government policies of assimilation which assumed black inferiority and white superiority.
The objective of these policies was for indigenous people to be allowed to "die out" through a process of natural elimination, or where possible, be assimilated into the white community.
The generations of children removed from their homes and families became known as the Stolen Generations and the legacy of trauma and loss continues to haunt many Aboriginal families until today.
"This is not in the past for us, we feel the impact and the legacy of colonisation every single day... particularly in the justice system," says Ms Moore.
"We still see the repercussions of that in the over-policing of our people, in the systemic discrimination that still exists."
She added that one of the reasons it becomes very hard to leave the justice system once a young person is in it, is because it is stacked against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at every level.
"From police interactions, to the courts, through to the sentences in prison, being denied bail, through to black deaths in custody. That's why we need structural change in order to get true justice for our people," she says.
