- as I said earlier general random networking often turns up many options. You never know who you'll meet up with in life but your chances of finding a successful matchup will obviously increase if you meet up at places where likely clients are likely to be (whether that is online or offline)

- the age of mass data collection/Big Data has changed things a lot for some big companies out there (such as the FAANG group). This collection of data has effectively turned the entire world into a "Hedge Fund" on many different levels. You can also do the same if you know where and how find the data in question. In December 2019, the Federal Government tasked the ACCC with monitoring digital platform services and their impacts on competition and consumers for five years, with reports to be issued every six months. The first interim report was made public on Friday.
The interim report found that the online activity of Australians was being extensively tracked with many businesses, including those that provide private online messaging, social media and search, able to obtain user data because they were providing advertising and other services to website and mobile apps.
"The ACCC's website analysis found Google and Facebook had the largest presence in online tracking, with Google and Facebook's third party scripts present on over 80% and 40% respectively of 1000 popular websites in Australia. Amazon and Microsoft tracking were present on nearly 30% and almost 20% of websites respectively," the report said.
The ACCC also commissioned research from AppCensus, a company that studies online privacy and data tracking, which found that "platforms such as Google and Facebook and advertising services providers have the potential to receive a range of user information from apps because of the prevalence of their software development kits within apps".
"AppCensus observed that Google's SDKs were identified in 92% of all apps analysed and Facebook's SDKs in 61% of apps."

In December 2019, the Federal Government tasked the ACCC with monitoring digital platform services and their impacts on competition and consumers for five years, with reports to be issued every six months. The first interim report was made public on Friday.
The interim report found that the online activity of Australians was being extensively tracked with many businesses, including those that provide private online messaging, social media and search, able to obtain user data because they were providing advertising and other services to website and mobile apps.
"The ACCC's website analysis found Google and Facebook had the largest presence in online tracking, with Google and Facebook's third party scripts present on over 80% and 40% respectively of 1000 popular websites in Australia. Amazon and Microsoft tracking were present on nearly 30% and almost 20% of websites respectively," the report said.
The ACCC also commissioned research from AppCensus, a company that studies online privacy and data tracking, which found that "platforms such as Google and Facebook and advertising services providers have the potential to receive a range of user information from apps because of the prevalence of their software development kits within apps".
"AppCensus observed that Google's SDKs were identified in 92% of all apps analysed and Facebook's SDKs in 61% of apps."

It's also the reason why some companies spend so much time on product placement and getting their brand name out there and in such high regularity. As an example of this, I get lots of people who try to network for business opportunities via various social media outlets in spite of much of it not being super targeted towards business. My guess is that you'll need to maintain a regular and relatively interesting presence for this to work though

- be smart. Over time, I've come to realise that most successful companies manage their data and finances best by being smart and leveraging opportunities that are afforded to them and not being simply the most ruthless. If you think of everything as an possible opportunity (rather then just risk) you may be surprised at what and where you can make gains and stop losses
- giveaways, competitions, etc...
- reviews and goofups of competitor products. Advertising/marketing a product for a company that has to deal with regular goofups of a competitor's product is obviously an opportunity
- making a good product or service sounds obvious but doesn't feel that way when you talk to some business owners who just want to push their product or service no matter how bad or uncompetitive it may be
- I've found that followers/users of a competitor's social media/product are much more inclined to look at similar alternatives
- know where/when you can push a client into using a product/service and when/where you can't and must adapt to their needs

- But while preaching nonzero-sum thinking, those winners have also taken a ruthlessly zero-sum approach to rewriting the rules of the economy to their own benefit. Corporations and their wealthy leaders have lobbied extensively, and successfully, to reduce their tax burdens, weaken the social safety net, undermine the power of their workers and increase their influence in the policymaking process. The net result has been a massive transfer of wealth and power from the poor and the middle class to those at the top.
When the rich shape a country's institutions in their own image and to their own benefit, it's little wonder that trust in those institutions declines, as it has in the United States. That lack of trust creates a vacuum for authoritarian and nativist regimes to take root, according to the United Nations. "The central message of populist movements has historically been that the common people are being exploited by a privileged elite, and that radical institutional change is required to avoid such exploitation," according to the report.
But research shows the history of populist regimes since 1990 has primarily been one of corruption, self-dealing, worsening inequality and political violence.
Policymakers have known how to avoid this dire outcome for decades, according to the U.N. report. Leveling the playing field would involve strengthening the minimum wage, reinforcing the social safety net and ensuring universal access to health care in places that currently lack it. It's really that simple, and wealthy countries like the United States have plenty of economic capacity and technical know-how to pull it off.
But putting those policies in place would require redistributing a lot of wealth downward, via a mechanism such as a wealth tax or some other form of increased taxation on the wealthy. And the individuals and institutions currently hoarding the country's riches have rightly identified those policies as a threat to their interests.

She used to find the experience of Parliament intimidating, given the university education of many parliamentarians.
"Now I think, 'You should be intimidated by me.' [They have] got no life experience," she said.
What people who find themselves in Parliament almost unexpectedly will always tell you is about how much you learn — and in most cases, how much it opens their eyes to the complexities of life.
"It's learning over time, but it's also the different people that you meet out there, that's — I really liked that bit," she said.
