Get Country Satellite Map Links Script, Random Stuff, and More

Get Country Satellite Map Links Script:
- I've been working on some projects that require access to satellite imagery. What I didn't realise is that there isn't really a menu of links that you can click on to see what each country looks like so I a script which created one. Download it here:

- description is as follows:
# I've been working on some projects that require access to satellite
# imagery. What I didn't realise is that there isn't really a menu of
# links that you can click on to see what each country looks like
# so I created one. Not all links work perfectly because they were
# automatically generated obviously. The context of this work will
# make more sense as time progresses.
#
# Obviously, to make the most of this script you'll need to be able to
# understand how to script/program.
#
# As this is the very first version of the program it may be VERY buggy.
# Please test prior to deployment in a production environment.
- if you view satellite enough images it's fascinating. You can actually see ineqality vary from country to country in a highly visible way. Development in a lot of poorer countries you see by lack of basic infrastructure, dirt roads, buildings in poor condition, farmland that doesn't seem healthy/fertile, etc... Internally, (on a national and state basis), you can see inequality or uneven development as well? You can see big, modern, beautiful architecture surrounded by run down/old buildings
- there's never been a genuine test of socio-economic systems because each country is unique and has finite resources. They form into power blocks that don't really deal with one another with rival systems?

- the Major/Colonial/Imperial Powers have basically been doing the same thing across most countries and have been for hundreds/thousands of years? They've gone from outright mean and nasty to covertly mean and nasty? When you drill down into the numbers it starts to make more sense. You can't cut really cut a deal with any of the Major Powers without giving away something significant? Other countries balk at the terms of conditions imposed by the Major Powers so sometimes often don't know what to do? In reality, a lot of countries were puppets in a larger conflict between the Major Powers? A lot of the techniques used to raise kids now (at home and elsewhere in institutions such as school and work) were used in the old Royal Courts of the East, West, Middle East, etc... Their traditions are often useless, sensibilities are stiffling, their values hypocritical, and cruelty often knowing few limits. It's actually really easy to see through a lot of covert operations after a while. It's obvious that a lot of countries are "looking/struggling/obsessing" for answers to their problems (Lebanon, Austria, Pakistan, Turkey, Myanmar, India, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Japan, basically all of the African and South American countries, etc... Basically, any country who is not in the central orbit of the United States is looking for alternatives especially given the rise of China and fall of the US). If you look closely, you'll see a lot of spies operating in and out these countries as well. Doing a Cuba, North Korea, USSR, Iran, etc... requires enormous struggle so most countries just go along with things as is even if there questionable issues of morality, terms of trade aren't great, etc... Some intelligence agencies seem to double as sales and marketing agencies which is really strange because I always thought "national security" pertained thing to things that were more pertinent/directly related to "national security"? A lot of spy agencies basically have a "steal it if it moves and is valuable perspective of life"?

He was not only an important part of the Soviet elite but also a trusted servant of the police state.
As Catherine Belton points out in her illuminating study of Putin, "Putin's People", he was more significant in the KGB's operations in East Germany than has often been acknowledged.
Dresden had the advantage of being far from the focus of the Western media's coverage of the Cold War, which was centred on Berlin.
And Putin had particular responsibilities.
Speculation is rife that these duties included liaising with terrorist groups and smuggling the necessary advanced technology from the West which helped keep the sputtering Soviet economy going.

-  I always wondered why people many of the world's greatest minds were filtered out of the system and had to make somethings of themselves rather then being supported by the system "as is". If the religions are honest then the elite know/realise that they are technically evil/Satanic? They know that they aren't genuinely pious or honour or are loyal to God (whatever or whoever that may be? The meaning/translation of Lord/God has changed radically over time). For things to change, it would ultimately come down a battle between Angels and Demons? Unfortunately, only they can recognise one another what they are and where their loyalties lie?

- if I could get access to military grade satellite imagery things could get interesting? I've been thinking of more advanced Anti-Weapons Technolgy (AWT) systems (more work required but I understand theoretically how to defeat/disable more complex and powerful offensive systems as well as small arms now (in a more practical form)?). If you can auto-deploy systems to a particular geographical areas based on need based on whatever intelligence you can gather you can force peace on that area because if the concept works you can disable all weapons within a given radius/range?

Random Quotes:
- Mr Blair said Kep sped up the process of identifying the exact location of leaks, saving time and money.
"A search of 5 kilometres of buried pipeline using traditional methods of acoustic detection could take weeks. She clears that at least 10 times faster," he said.
Acoustic devices were generally used to find underground leaks but narrowing down a leak across long networks of pipes could be difficult.
"What a correlator does is it listens to the noise at each end and then tells you, based on a distance, where there is a leak noise in the pipe, over the course of say 10 kilometres that's not really practical, it won't be very accurate,"  Mr Blair said.
"It's definitely a lot easier to move up the pipe with the dog and let her tell you where she's getting a scent.
"Then we can listen directly with the probing equipment."

- "Jackfruit, as a crop, does not need irrigation, does not need pesticides, does not need herbicides. So it's a very hardy tree, and when it yields fruit, it's very, very prolific," said Carsten Carstens, Karana's chief scientific officer and first hire.
In fact, jackfruit is so abundant in the region that tons of it go to waste every year. That is due in part to the complexity of preparing and cooking it.
We knew that jackfruit was not living up to its potential.
Dan Riegler
CO-FOUNDER, KARANA
"The formats that it was available in ... were just not exciting to us. They were very difficult to work with, they were not yielding interesting textures and end results, and we knew that jackfruit was not living up to its potential," Riegler said.
So, the founders set to work adapting the fruit for a mass-market — soon devising a chemical-free, mechanical process at their manufacturing hub in Singapore to transform the fruit into a shredded, meat-like product that's simple for chefs and consumers to use.
"Our intention was really to create something that chefs can take and create amazing dishes with," said Carstens. "For the modern kitchen in a modern (food and beverage) operation, it is just too labor-intense."

- Biden plans to pay the bill by hiking taxes on American companies from 21 percent to 28 percent – still well below the 35 percent they were in 2017, when then-President Donald Trump slashed them.
American firms currently pay roughly 13 percent on offshore earnings, and Biden is seeking to raise the global minimum tax rate to 21 percent.
"We are working with G20 nations to agree to a global minimum corporate tax rate that can stop the race to the bottom," Yellen said, referring to the phenomenon of firms fleeing high-tax-rate economies to set up shop in low-tax economies.
Critics of the proposal say the race to the bottom will harm workers, who will feel the most pain if corporations are taxed more.
"It is hard to see how raising the corporate income tax, the burden of which will be ultimately shouldered by workers and shareholders, will do to help with inequality," Veronique de Rugy, senior research fellow at the libertarian-leaning Mercatus Center at George Mason University in Virginia, told Al Jazeera.
"Also, raising corporate costs will lead to less investment in fixed assets and that helps no one considering the private sector is the driver of ownership in infrastructure and investment in infrastructure," she added.
Biden's proposal would raise the amount of money collected from corporations by 38 percent, according to the Cato Institute, a libertarian-leaning think-tank based in Washington, DC.
Cato's director of tax policy studies warned that raising the tax rate in the US will cause American corporations to move their profits and investments abroad and slash costs.
"If we get Amazon or General Electric to pay more taxes, they will end up paying their workers less," Chris Edwards told Al Jazeera. "It's kind of a cat-and-mouse game – [the Biden administration] wants to raise the corporate tax rate that will move investments out of the country and then they are trying to bring in rules to prevent that."

- The two defense chiefs held talks after an F-16 fighter jet belonging to the Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture dumped two fuel tanks before making an emergency landing at Aomori Airport on Tuesday evening.
One of the tanks apparently landed in a residential area, although no one was injured. The following day, Japan asked the United States to ground F-16 fighter jets belonging to the air base until their safety is confirmed.
But Misawa city officials confirmed that a U.S. jet flew on Thursday and Japan had not been notified of safety measures taken, according to Kishi.
The 35th Fighter Wing of the Misawa Air Base said in a statement following the incident that an F-16 fighter jet experienced a problem during a flight and its pilot jettisoned the fuel tanks in an unpopulated area close to Mt. Iwaki in the prefecture.
However, one tank was found about 20 to 30 meters from some homes in the town of Fukaura with a population of some 7,600, while the other one was found in the mountains.
According to Misawa city officials, the U.S. base said the pilot dropped the tanks to reduce the weight of the jet after receiving an alert that oil pressure was dropping.
While the jet made an emergency landing at 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the defense ministry said it was not until around 9:30 p.m. that it was notified by the U.S. military about the matter.

- "Because C'Dots are so small, they also diffuse better," he says. "They can basically get through all of the tumor, not just the periphery, which is important because if you only get to the periphery, then the tumor shrinks from outside in, which takes a long time. But if you can diffuse through the entire tumor tissue, you can basically begin disintegrating the whole tumor from day one."
Elucida's technology features a 10-step process in which C'Dots either find their mark or are eliminated. After injection and circulation in the bloodstream, the CDCs find the tumor, which by nature has a porous surrounding vasculature due to rapid growth, a hallmark of cancerous tissue.
CDCs then diffuse through the tumor microenvironment in order to specifically target tumor cells. This is key: The better CDCs diffuse through the entirety of the tumor, the better they can target cells throughout the tumor, and not just those on the surface layer.
"Target or Clear" leads to efficient biodistribution; accumulation in the tumor is maximized, while off-target accumulation (in the liver, for example) is minimized, reducing the potential for negative side effects such as those often suffered by chemotherapy patients.
Despite their ultra-small size, C'Dots can be armed with a payload of up to 80 molecules of synthetic drugs without compromising the desired targeting and pharmacokinetic properties. In comparison, typical ADCs only carry four drug molecules.
The reason for the superior drug capacity? It's the hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) shell, which provides colloidal stability in aqueous solutions, including blood serum. The PEG chains are arranged somewhat perpendicular to the silica core's surface, in what's called a "brush" conformation.
The drug payload rests in between the PEG chains – the "bristles" of the brush – meaning the hydrophobic drugs don't destabilize C'Dots in solution.
"You can really think of it as a forest, where you have the drugs in between the trees," Wiesner said. "An antibody does not have such a surface brush layer. There are no trees to hide in between, leading to a lower drug loading capacity."

- Major General Ibrahim Nasser Al Alawi, commander of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, said in a statement on state news agency WAM late on Saturday that the Rafale jets would replace the UAE's French-built Mirage 2000 fleet.
"This deal is not considered as an alternative for the forthcoming F-35 deal, it is rather a complementary deal … as we develop our air force capabilities," Alawi said, adding the UAE had for some time been looking to replace its Mirage fleet.
The sale of 50 F-35 warplanes made by Lockheed Martin to the UAE has slowed amid concerns in Washington over Abu Dhabi's relationship with China, including use of Huawei 5G technology in the country.
Last month, a U.S. official said the United States intends to move forward with the sale but that there must be a clear understanding of "Emirati obligations."
The United States under then-President Donald Trump agreed to sell the jets after the UAE last year established ties with Israel. President Joe Biden's administration has said this year it would proceed with the sale.

For starters, Indigenous unemployment rates are 3.6 times higher than non-indigenous in Australia. This figure becomes more shocking in remote areas where the Indigenous unemployment rate rises to above 40%.
How long might it take for refugees to gain employment once arrived in Australia?
Well, after being here for 18 months, 43% still find themselves jobless. For those emigrating from the Middle East, the unemployment rate is six times higher than the Australian average. The picture is not much better for those Australians with disabilities who now have less representation in the workforce than what they did 20 years ago.
According to a 2014 study, the majority of former prisoners are homeless and/or unemployed within 6 months after their release; one in three single parents are unemployed ; 140,000 unemployed Australians are aged between 50-64; youth unemployment is double that of the rest of the population and as high as 28% in some rural communities; transgender women make up an astonishing 12% of those living in homeless shelters while 60% of LGBTI people report homophobic verbal abuse in the workplace.
All candidates come from at least one of these categories and bring extraordinary emotional stories of challenge and sometimes trauma. And to top it all off they face the most employer discrimination and marginalisation in Australia.

- Prime Minister Scott Morrison has fended off criticism against his government's multibillion-dollar grants system, after extensive analysis revealed funding directed to Coalition-held seats far-outstripped taxpayer money delivered to Labor electorates.
The Sydney Morning Herald and the Age's investigation showed uneven funding through more than 19,000 grants had led to Liberal-held seats receiving up to three times more than those of Labor.
The analysis of grants over a three-year period revealed Coalition seats had received more than $1.9 billion, compared with Labor electorates getting just under $530 million.
When questioned about the analysis, Mr Morrison denied the system had been highly politicised.
"It's a predictively selective analysis of 11 programs out of 1,700 so I think people can form their own judgements about that," he told reporters on Wednesday
"But what I do know is that when we make a commitment we keep it, that's what we do as a government."
...
In the latest analysis, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age said it examined 19,123 grants across 11 programs worth $2.8 billion in the 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years.
This accounted for one in five grants made in that time period.
The findings showed Labor leader Anthony Albanese's electorate of Grayndler had received just $718,000, while a neighbour Liberal-held marginal seat of Reid received $14.8 million.
Mr Morrison's home electorate of Cook received $8.2 million.
...
The analysis also identified that the largest number of grants by value and number had flowed to drought-affected and large electorates with a high proportion of small communities.
However, it showed Labor seats accounted for 15 of the 20 least-supported seats.
Mr Albanese said the analysis proved the government's handling of the grants system amounted to "pork barrelling" that is "out of control".
"They have completely corrupted the granting process and what we see is that these rorts need to stop," he told reporters.
He added that the government's determination to "brush off" these concerns meant there was the danger of a "frenzy" of this behaviour repeating in the lead up to the next election.
"Taxpayers don't pay different rates of tax according to what electorate they are in," he said.
"But what we know is unless you are in a marginal, Liberal or National party seat you won't receive the same support as those voters do."

- One suspects that even women in the PR industry are growing sick of this kind of here-one-day-gone-the-next publicity judging from my own experience: this year I received only two pitches for coverage, and those only on Monday, a day before the sacred day. In past years, there have been many more.
For the other 364 days (or 365 in a leap year), women in technology are relegated to the backrooms, with just the occasional person earning any coverage in the tech press. And it's not by any kind of manipulation by journalists; the person put forward by company A, B or C to offer some spiel about this, that or the other is unfailingly a man.
The only solution to this paucity of women in professions that have to do with science, technology, engineering and mathematics is to create quotas for them in this line. It is the only way to ensure some fairness. And it is nothing to do with being "woke" or "politically correct." It is plain commonsense.
There is nothing wrong with quotas when bias over the years — yes, bias — has kept out many a qualified and competent woman and instead resulted in the recruitment of some garden-variety male, just because he "fits in" better. Or maybe his dad had some influence among the recruiting company's top brass. Or maybe he came from the "right" kind of school or university.
In May last year, the government's STEM equity monitor showed that only 28% of those working in industries covered by this acronym were women. When key management personnel and senior managers were considered, only 23% were women. These statistics were for 2020.
I've seen how quotas work. The country from which I hail, India, has an institutionalised caste system, where the so-called upper castes lord it over the others. To overcome the natural bias in the system, the government found that the only way was to make quotas mandatory for admission to higher education and also government jobs. I still recall that when I joined college, so-called forward castes could only compete for 49% of the available seats. The balance was for all the others who had been discriminated against for ages.
Defenders of the existing system often claim that it is "degrading" to have quotas, as this would give women an "unfair" advantage and result in mediocre candidates getting into jobs which otherwise would have been filled by "competent" men.
This kind of rubbish argument assumes that only competent, qualified men get into the workforce, a fallacy that is shown up as such every single day.
This does not mean all women are super-competent. They follow a similar pattern to men: some are super-competent, others moderately competent and some are plain incompetent. But then, given men are very much in the same buckets and in the same proportions, what exactly prevents a company from recruiting a woman in preference to a man? The odds of issues arising are about the same.
It is only when the percentage of women in STEM jobs grows to at least 50% that others will be sufficiently encouraged to study STEM subjects as they will have some degree of confidence about their job prospects. Figures for 2019 show that less than a quarter (22%) of women were studying STEM subjects. As far as employment chances for STEM graduates went in the same year, men were 1.8 times more likely to land a role compared to women.
I agree that one cannot solve every problem by laying down the law. There are also cultural issues that have resulted in this situation. But one living example is in front of us: the Australian Labor Party has increased the number of women in its parliamentary ranks to 46% [if memory serves me right] by imposing quotas. The Liberals and Nationals, who claim to believe in merit, are trailing a mile behind and unlikely to catch up any time soon.
What leaders do, others tend to try and emulate. Someone needs to take the bull by the horns, without bothering about what others say.

Between March and December last year, traditional tasks like rubbish collection, cleaning footpaths and building community gardens were replaced with activities including quilting, knitting scarves, braiding dog leads, assembling planter boxes, sewing bags and sorting donations for op-shops. All items were donated to charities, animal shelters and aged care facilities.

- Why can't police proceed with an investigation? Is there no avenue by which to pursue a criminal case?
"No, not realistically," Bradley said. "I think the conclusion [the police] reached is certainly understandable because of the nature of sexual assault cases.
"In this particular case, they don't have a formal statement from the complainant. She's obviously no longer available, her evidence can't be tested. Really, it doesn't even get to first base in terms of the burden of proof for a prosecution of a crime. So no, there is no possibility that that could proceed."
He added, "I'm sorry to have to say that, yes, the system is not designed to deal with crimes of sexual violence. The cards are stacked against victims. And there is much about the way that our legal system handles these matters which needs reform."

- Early years and background
Ley was born in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria to English parents. When she was one year old, her family moved to the United Arab Emirates, where her father worked as a British intelligence officer. Ley attended boarding school in England until she was 13, when her family migrated to Australia.[9] Her parents bought a hobby farm in Toowoomba, but quickly sold it due to a crash in beef prices. They then moved to Canberra, where her father worked for the Australian Federal Police. She was educated at Campbell High School, Dickson College,[10] La Trobe University, the University of New South Wales and Charles Sturt University, and has master's degrees in taxation and accountancy. She changed her name from Susan to Sussan due to a belief in numerology.[11]
When Ley was 19 she enrolled in flight school and gained her commercial pilot's licence when she was 20. She has been a waitress, cleaner, and trained, but did not complete training, as an air traffic controller. But she was a commercial pilot, and later a farmer and shearer's cook. She met John Ley while aerial stock-mustering in south-west Queensland. They married in 1987, settled on her husband's family farm in north-east Victoria, and had three children before their 2004 divorce.[12] Ley was Director of Technical Training at the Australian Taxation Office in Albury from 1995 to 2001 before entering politics.[13]

- Because America entered both world wars of the 20th century last, while all the other great powers bled one another, and because we outlasted the Soviet Empire in the Cold War, America emerged, in the term of President George H.W. Bush, as "the last superpower."
We had it all. We were the "indispensable nation." We saw further into the future. We could impose our "benevolent global hegemony" on all mankind. And so it was that we set out to create a "new world order," plunging into successive wars in Iraq, the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq again, Syria, Libya, Yemen.
So doing, we bled ourselves, distracted ourselves, exhausted ourselves and sundered ourselves, until half the country was echoing George McGovern's 1972 campaign slogan: "Come home, America."
And as we went crusading for a new world order, Vladimir Putin's Russia gradually recovered from its crushing Cold War defeat, and China began to move out of America's shadow to become the most powerful rival modern America had ever faced.
Now, U.S. hegemony is being everywhere challenged — in Eastern Europe, the Near East, Southeast Asia, East Asia. And the challenges arise from autocrats united in their resolve to reduce the power and the presence of the United States in their part of the world.
All of America's adversaries have something in common: They want us out of their neighborhood.

- (CNN) - The FBI says it will not release crime numbers from the last quarter of 2021 because of a lack of reporting from U.S. law enforcement agencies.
The agency said it received data from less than 10,000 of the nation's nearly 19,000 law enforcement agencies, a number that falls under the 60% threshold the agency says it needs to release data trends by region and aggregate population groups.
Law enforcement agencies are not required to submit data to the FBI.
However, the agency said it would still post quarterly data from individual cities with a population of 100,000 or more.

After pouring beers for patrons at the lively boozer, Mr Morrison found himself on the receiving end of criticism from some - including one who called him the "worst PM ever".
A pubgoer was seen giving Mr Morrison a hard time about a range of issues, with a crowd gathering round to see what the commotion was about.
"Listen to me for a change. You can have a million dollar house, $250,000 in the bank and franking credits but a disability pensioner can't have an income," a video from the pub shows the man saying.
