Bunga bunga is a phrase of uncertain origin and various meanings that dates from 1910, and a name for an area of Australia dating from 1852. By 2010 the phrase had gained popularity in Italy and the international press to refer to former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's sex parties, which caused a major political scandal in Italy.
...
Resurgence in Italy
A century later, the term bunga bunga became popular again as part of a joke on the internet.[7][n 1] This joke was then narrated by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at his dinner parties (in a version which featured, as prisoners, former ministers from the centre-left opposition party led by Romano Prodi).[8]
This expression was then frequently quoted by the Italian and international press during the 2011 investigation surrounding Silvio Berlusconi's child exploitation acquiring a quite different meaning as "an orgy involving a powerful leader"; it was allegedly taught to Silvio Berlusconi by Muammar al-Gaddafi,[9] who was also the unwitting originator of the phrase Zenga Zenga.
In Italy, the term "has become an instant, supposedly hilarious, household expression".[10]
Recent explanations disagree on its meaning, or perhaps illustrate the range of its reference. It "is said to be a sort of underwater orgy where nude young women allegedly encircled the nude host and/or his friends in his swimming pool",[11] "an African-style ritual" performed for male spectators by "20 naked young women",[12] or erotic entertainment hosted by a rich host involving pole dancing and competitive striptease by skimpy-costumed "women in nurses' outfits and police uniforms"[13] – but topless women, the prize being prostitution for the host.[14]
An alternative explanation for its origins was proposed by actress Sabina Began, who claimed that it was a nickname based on her surname and that she had organized the parties.[15]
The lexicographer Jonathon Green does not expect the term to make much headway, or to last, in English.[16]
The bunga bunga culture sparked a social movement called "Se Non Ora Quando" in 2011, which included street protests.[17]

Paul Keating On The Government's Economic Record
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJuoLrgGbXE
Keating was born at St Margaret's Hospital in Darlinghurst, Sydney, New South Wales, on 18 January 1944.[1] He was the first of four children born to Minnie (née Chapman) and Matthew John Keating. His father worked as a boilermaker for the New South Wales Government Railways.[2] All of Keating's grandparents were born in Australia. On his father's side, he was descended from Irish immigrants born in counties Galway, Roscommon, and Tipperary.[3] On his mother's side, he was of mixed English and Irish descent. His maternal grandfather, Fred Chapman, was the son of two convicts, John Chapman and Sarah Gallagher, both of whom had been transported for theft in the 1830s.[4]
Keating grew up in Bankstown, a working-class suburb in western Sydney. His siblings include Anne Keating, a company director and businesswoman. Leaving De La Salle College—now known as LaSalle Catholic College—at the age of 14, Keating left high school rather than pursuing higher education, instead working as a pay clerk at the Sydney County Council's electricity distributor.[5] He then worked as research assistant for a trade union, having joined the Labor Party as soon as he was eligible. In 1966, he became President of New South Wales Young Labor.[6] During the 1960s, Keating also managed a rock band named The Ramrods.[7]

Paul Keating had political skill and intuitive economic thinking, writes Richard Holden, but was he a great treasurer?
Paul Keating was once described as the "world's greatest treasurer" and last night's interview with Kerry O'Brien suggests he has not wavered in his own assessment of his legacy. But what, in fact, makes a great treasurer?
It's tempting to think that good economic instincts are the key. And Keating had great economic instincts. He had an intuitive grasp of the importance of market-oriented economic policy, particularly for a small open economy like Australia. He understood that a strong social safety net could only be sustained on the back of a strong economy. And he realized that heavy regulation and high tariffs benefited capital and hurt workers.
These instincts helped bring to Australia a tidal wave of economic modernisation from the mid 1980s: a floated dollar, deregulated banking system, the end of centralized wage-fixing, the privatization of the Commonwealth Bank and Qantas, and the beginnings of Reserve Bank independence.

austria russia relations
According to the report Gazprom's European Web, Austria has long been a favorite country for Soviet (now Russian) commerce, banking, and espionage activities. Austrian police sources have in the 2000s stated that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) maintained its largest European station in Vienna.[14]
In 2003, SVR agent Vladimir Alganov was caught in Vienna discussing bribes Russian spies had paid to senior Polish officials.[15][16][17]
On 9 November 2018, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said that a 70-year-old retired army colonel was believed to have spied for Russia for about thirty years.[18] The officer in question, who was exposed thanks to a tip-off from the UK government, was said to have been engaged in disclosing state secrets to Russia's GRU from 1992 until September 2018.[19][20] Two days later, Kronen Zeitung reported that for more than a year, Austria's State Prosecution Office Against White Collar Crime and Corruption (Korruptionsstaatsanwaltschaft) had been investigating an employee of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counterterrorism (BVT) who was suspected of spying for Russia.[21] As a result, Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneissl cancelled her visit to Russia that had been slated for early December.[18] Nevertheless, prime minister Kurz, citing Austria's neutrality, said no "unilateral action" would be taken against Russia.[22] Professor Gerhard Mangott of University of Innsbruck commented for the BBC by saying he was surprised the incident had been made public as it is business as usual and a long-standing tradition for Austrian citizens to spy for foreign powers.[23] In early July 2019, an Austrian court extended pre-trial detention of the suspected retired army colonel until 26 August.[24] On 25 July 2019, Austria's Ministry of the Interior said that the suspected colonel's handler had been a Moscow-born GRU officer Igor Egorovich Zaytsev, a Russian national, for whom an international arrest warrant had been issued.[25][26] In June 2020, the colonel, still unnamed, was freed upon being convicted of spying for GRU for more than 25 years.[27]
In August 2020, Austria expelled a Russian diplomat following a report accusing him of being involved in industrial espionage.[28] The expulsion was said to be a first in Austria's relations with Russia.[29] The Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported that the diplomat's illicit activities were exposed after an Austrian who worked in a technology company confessed he had carried out espionage for years on behalf of the Russian, who was his intelligence handler.[28]

Zuma officially announced the death of Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first democratically elected president, in a press conference on 5 December 2013.[105][106] Zuma was booed and heckled by the crowd at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela.[107] Al Jazeera reported that "for many South Africans, Zuma represents some of the nation's least appealing qualities. They consider their deeply flawed president and faltering government and mutter dark thoughts about a failing state and a banana republic."[108]

Random Quotes:
- The trajectory toward empire started with white settler expansion within the United States. In 1785, the US Army initiated what "would become a century-long continent-wide fort-construction program," Vine writes. These forts were used to launch violent invasions of Native American lands, to protect white settler towns and cities, and to force Native Americans further and further away from the East Coast.
They were also used to expand the fur trade, which, in turn, encouraged other settlers to keep moving west, with some forts functioning in part as trading posts. The famed expedition of Lewis and Clark was a military mission (Meriwether Lewis was an army captain and William Clark a former infantry company commander) to collect geographic data that would be used for more "fort construction, natural resource exploitation and westward colonization by settlers," Vine notes.
While the United States was expanding its frontier, its Navy was also pursuing fort construction overseas, from North Africa's Barbary Coast to Chile, often for the purpose of securing trade advantages. In the thirty years following the war of 1812 — primarily a war of US expansion — settlers pushed westward within the United States, building infrastructure as they went: roads, trails, and more than sixty major forts west of the Mississippi River by the 1850s. After the United States went to war with Mexico, army bases were constructed in the annexed territory. Forts in Wyoming protected wagon trails, allowing settlers to expand through the western United States.
The violent conquest and massacre of Native Americans did not stop during the Civil War, and it escalated from 1865 to 1898, when "the U.S. Army fought no fewer than 943 distinct engagements against Native peoples, ranging from 'skirmishes' to full-scale battles in twelve separate campaigns," writes Vine. Exterminationist, white supremacist policies were particularly pronounced in California, but took place across the West. After 1876, when President Ulysses S. Grant "turned over" Native Americans to the War Department, Fort Leavenworth was transformed into a prisoner of war camp for the Nimi'ipuu tribe.
Over "almost 115 consecutive years of U.S. wars against indigenous nations," as Vine puts it, US military forts played a consistent role in protecting white settler pillaging and conquest.
In Vine's telling, the War of 1898 was "the start of a new form of overseas empire" which "saw the country expand across the continent with the help of U.S. Army forts and near-continuous war." In some cases, it's possible to draw a direct line between expansion within the United States and conquest abroad.
Nelson A. Miles, US Army commanding general, waged brutal battles against the Kiowa, Comanche, Sioux, Nez Perce, and Apache tribes, then ordered Gen. George Custer's calvary to massacre as many as three hundred Lakota Sioux in 1890, then violently put down the Pullman, Illinois railroad workers strike in 1894.
Miles also led a bloody counterinsurgency war in the Philippines, aimed at defeating its independence movement. (Similar continuity between domestic and global repression can be found today as counterinsurgency tactics and military weapons and equipment are used by US police departments.)
Organized labor, immigrants, recently freed slaves, indigenous peoples at home and abroad: They were all subdued by the same military and police forces making way for white settlement and capital expansion.
After seizing Spanish colonies during the 1898 war, the United States began to pursue a new form of imperialism that was "less dependent on the creation of new formal colonies and more dependent on informal, less overtly violent — but violent nonetheless — political and economic tools backed by military might, including bases abroad," Vine writes. The United States built up the military presence in the Philippines to seventy thousand troops, using these forces to help put down China's Boxer rebellion, and used its military might to intervene ruthlessly in Panama.
World War II saw the dramatic expansion of military bases, an era inaugurated in 1940, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a deal with Prime Minister Winston Churchill to trade naval destroyers for ninety-nine-year leases in eight British colonies, all located in the Western Hemisphere. In the immediate aftermath of the war, the United States temporarily shrank military personnel spending, and returned roughly half its foreign bases.
Yet the basic global infrastructure of bases (many of which were built with the labor of colonized workers) would remain entrenched — and a "permanent war system," as Vine puts it, was established. During the post–World War II era of decolonization, the United States used its military base network and economic influence, buttressed by new institutions like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, to protect its preeminence.
During the Cold War, overseas base expansion became central to the goals of containment and forward positioning, premised on the idea that global bases allow quick response to threats and rapid interventions and deployments in crises. While giving the illusion of increased safety, these bases actually made foreign wars more likely, argues Vine, because they made it easier to wage such wars. In turn, conflict increased construction of US bases.

- In a statement issued on 26 October, the SFC's Denver Gingerich said the organisation believed that youtube-dl has a large number of non-infringing uses, and listed the following:
It enables users to watch YouTube videos without installing any non-free software;
It enables the watching of YouTube at different speeds (including speeds YouTube does not offer) – an important feature for accessibility;
It changes the YouTube video quality setting manually when the user is more aware of bandwidth issues than YouTube's non-human algorithms;
It has the ability to download (and then, with other software, modify and reuse) freely licensed videos, such as those licensed under CC-BY; and
It provides various aids for journalists, including fact-checking, video analysis, and bandwidth-saving.
"We realise Microsoft, a paying member of the RIAA, has left themselves stuck between their industry association's abuses of the law and the needs of FOSS projects for which they provide infrastructure," Gingerich said.
"While under current law (which we object to), complying with the takedown notice is admittedly the fastest way to limit Microsoft's liability, we view Microsoft's membership in the RIAA as a much bigger liability to our community, now that Microsoft controls GitHub.
"We call on Microsoft to resign from the RIAA and remove their conflict of interest in this matter. This is an important opportunity for Microsoft to stand up for the values of software freedom."
Microsoft acquired GitHub in June 2018 for US$7.5 billion (A$9.79 billion) in Microsoft stock. Soon after the deal, many GitHub users said they would be moving their repositories off GitHub unless Microsoft stopped its work with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Getting Internships/Finding Interns, Random Stuff, and More

- I've had some people contact me about internships (both recruiting and getting) so I've decided to write a post about this
- friends, family, and acquaintances are often the first point of contact for most people
- while cold calling may work I've found that has a lower success/efficiency rate when compared with targeted marketing. Part of the time I feel as though you may be better off writing custom software and tools to find what you want on the Internet
- there are regionally based programs as well as specific skill area related programs

https://www.letsintern.com/internships/online-virtual-internships
https://www.goabroad.com/articles/intern-abroad/best-virtual-internships
- charity and voluntary work is often a good way to get work experience. The obvious irony is that due to the modern litigative world more charities are putting up barriers to entry. This means that background checks are becoming more common and needed
- job advertisement boards (online and offline). This includes public areas such as in Universities, supermarkets, etc...
- joint industry/education/training programs. Good examples of this are often joint government/industry programs where there are skills shortages such as in the military industrial complex and in trades
http://dtbnguyen.blogspot.com/2019/08/getting-free-education-and-training.html
- there are organisations that specialise in getting interns, networking with companies, and providing final link up between them
https://au.gradconnection.com/employers/australian-internships/
https://sites.google.com/view/practicum-digital/welcome
- get yourself out there. As I said earlier general random networking often turns up many options. You never know who you'll meet up with in life but your chances of finding a successful matchup will obviously increase if you meet up at places where likely clients are likely to be (whether that is online or offline). It's easier/better to have to reject work then to have to try and find it
http://dtbnguyen.blogspt.com/2020/11/finding-business-clients-and-customers.html
https://dtbnguyen.blogspot.com/2019/08/finding-fundinginvestment-making-money.html
- sometimes you can the work contract/outsource to a recruitment company or marketing company
- sound obvious but search online. I didn't realise a huge number of well known organisation have virtual internship programs (this is especially pertinent given the COVID-19 era and slowing global economic growth)

- as a side note it's a good way of gaining information and competitive intelligence on how certain companies operate and getting free training as well?
- I've worked with organisations trying to get free labour via regularly churning of interns (and employees as well!). Note that internships are not supposed to be a way to get free labour though and there are often local laws to prevent exploitation of young students and professionals. It's supposed to be a way to get an idea of what life is going to be like in the workforce at a particular company or in a particular industry
intern law
When is unpaid internship or work experience okay?
Unpaid work experience or internships can be okay if:
they're a student or vocational placement, or
there's no employment relationship.
For more information about different types of lawful unpaid work, see our Unpaid work fact sheet.
Unlike unpaid work, people in employment relationships are employees of a business and entitled to:
a minimum wage
the National Employment Standards
the terms of any applicable award or registered agreement.
To work out if a person is an employee or not depends on a number of things. One of the most important is whether the arrangement involves creating an employment contract.
A person and a business can make an employment contract in writing or verbally. However, they can also make a contract when the person does activities for the business that look like work. This even includes arrangements when both the person and the business:
say it's not employment, or
agree the business won't pay the person for their work.
...
Indicators of an employment relationship
It's important to understand what an employment relationship looks like and when one exists. Things to look at include:
what was agreed to?
what was the reason for the arrangement?
how long was the arrangement?
how important was the work to the business?
what work is the person doing?
who's getting the benefit?

- you need to realise that the job/life process is not fair. What you put in isn't necessarily what you're going to get out. Both organisations and individuals will attempt to protect their reputations even if there is overwhelming evidence to suggest that they may be completely wrong? You need to either learn to live with that, work your way around it, fight it, etc... I deal with this problem partly by maintaining a public record of much of my work. That makes it more difficult for anyone to spin/lie their way out of their situation. That said, I (like many others) have found that people believe what they want to believe not necessarily what's right or is the truth?

Random Quotes:
- Which comedians mentored you along the way? There's not a lot of that in the field. Comedians are not generous by nature because it's a very, very tenuous existence. But I try to do that because I've been fortunate that I came into this life with security. And I give my parents credit for that because they were secure people. I did have a funny conversation with Rodney Dangerfield one time at a club. I asked him all these questions and he went, "You know what? You'll figure it out." He was right.

- "Understanding positive ways in which cats and humans interact can enhance public understanding of cats, improve feline welfare, and tell us more about the socio-cognitive abilities of this understudied species," said Dr. Tasmin Humphrey, who co-led the research with McComb. The findings are particularly useful for veterinarians and rescuers to better assess feline welfare and emotions.
Paradoxically, Humphrey theorises that cats may have adopted the habit more regularly after noticing that humans were the ones who felt more relaxed after a cat's slow blink.
"In terms of why cats behave in this way, it could be argued that cats developed the slow blink behaviours because humans perceived slow blinking as positive," she explained. "Cats may have learned that humans reward them for responding to slow blinking."
Humphrey continued, "It is also possible that slow blinking in cats began as a way to interrupt an unbroken stare, which is potentially threatening in social interaction."
McComb suggests all cat lovers make use of their discovery.
"It is something you can try yourself with your own cat at home, or with cats you meet in the street. It's a great way of enhancing the bond you have with cats," she said.

- Host to 31 U.S. military bases, Okinawa, Japan's southernmost prefecture, is no stranger to the risks of bearing the burden of the U.S.-Japan alliance. In 1959, the U.S. military accidentally shot a nuclear rocket into a local harbor; six years later, it lost a hydrogen bomb in nearby seas; then in 1969, a leak of nerve agent on the island so shocked the world that President Richard Nixon was forced to renounce his nation's first-use policy on chemical weapons.
...
Opinion polls generally show the majority of Okinawans support the U.S.-Japan alliance – but they wish their prefecture wasn't burdened with 70 percent of the U.S. military presence in Japan. They also wish SOFA would be overhauled; 39 of Japan's 47 prefectural governors agree that SOFA needs to be rewritten. At the time it was penned 60 years ago, nobody realized how harmful military operations could be to the environment, but in the ensuing decades, it has become clear that concentrating the U.S. military presence on Okinawa concentrates contamination there, too. If the U.S. wants to maintain Okinawan support for the U.S.-Japan alliance then it needs to understand that protecting human health and the environment is inseparable from its wider mission of protecting Japan.

- Amazon has been charged by the European commission with using the sales data of independent retailers selling through its site to illegally gain an advantage in the European market place.
Margrethe Vestager, the commission's vice-president, said the commission's preliminary conclusion was that Amazon used "big data" to illegally distort competition in France and Germany, the biggest online retail markets in Europe.
Brussels has also decided to open a second investigation into Amazon's e-commerce business practices over concerns that the Seattle-based company set rules on its platform to benefit its own offers and those independent retailers using its logistics and delivery services.
Last month, Amazon announced a third quarter income for 2020 of $6.3bn, triple that of the previous year, as an increasing number of shoppers turn to online sales amid the pandemic.
Vestager told a press conference in Brussels that the commission did not have an issue with the size of the company but only with its business practices which appeared to illegally stymy the growth of its competitors.
"We all know how important e-commerce is today and the current crisis has demonstrated even further that buying online is now commonplace for many, many people, people shop online more frequently and for an increasing variety of products," Vestager said. "The value of online sales in Europe has been growing steadily. And it has almost doubled in the last five years, reaching almost €720bn this year, up from more than €370bn in 2015.
"And Amazon is at the centre of this market development. More than 70% of consumers in France, and more than 80% of consumers in Germany, that made online purchases bought something from Amazon in the last 12 months. We do not take issue with the success of Amazon or its size. Our concern is very specific business contacts which appears to distort genuine competition."
