Law and Disorder Downloader Script:
- I needed a custom downloader script for the Corbett Report Podcast so built the following:
get_lawanddisorder_podcast-1.03.zip
https://drive.google.com/file/d/10tWspEBGqhM-42yx6nPV7PIKsutLg-36/view?usp=sharing
http://sites.google.com/site/dtbnguyen/
http://dtbnguyen.blogspot.com.au/
- description is as follows:
# There are often websites that don't interact well with download managers
# so you sometimes have to build a custom script to deal with it. This is
# a custom custom downloader script for MP3 podcasts for:
#
# Obviously, to make the most of this script you'll need to be able to
# understand how to script/program.
#
# As this is the very first version of the program it may be VERY buggy.
# Please test prior to deployment in a production environment.
Random Stuff:

Random Quotes:
- The candidates have been selected from a diverse range of high unemployment groups in Australian society whose lack of opportunity has nothing to do with being less deserving and everything to do with marginalisation.
But who exactly are these groups?
For starters, Indigenous unemployment rates are 3.6 times higher than non-indigenous in Australia. This figure becomes more shocking in remote areas where the Indigenous unemployment rate rises to above 40%.
How long might it take for refugees to gain employment once arrived in Australia?
Well, after being here for 18 months, 43% still find themselves jobless. For those emigrating from the Middle East, the unemployment rate is six times higher than the Australian average. The picture is not much better for those Australians with disabilities who now have less representation in the workforce than what they did 20 years ago.
According to a 2014 study, the majority of former prisoners are homeless and/or unemployed within 6 months after their release; one in three single parents are unemployed ; 140,000 unemployed Australians are aged between 50-64; youth unemployment is double that of the rest of the population and as high as 28% in some rural communities; transgender women make up an astonishing 12% of those living in homeless shelters while 60% of LGBTI people report homophobic verbal abuse in the workplace.
All candidates come from at least one of these categories and bring extraordinary emotional stories of challenge and sometimes trauma. And to top it all off they face the most employer discrimination and marginalisation in Australia.

- Prime Minister Scott Morrison has fended off criticism against his government's multibillion-dollar grants system, after extensive analysis revealed funding directed to Coalition-held seats far-outstripped taxpayer money delivered to Labor electorates.
The Sydney Morning Herald and the Age's investigation showed uneven funding through more than 19,000 grants had led to Liberal-held seats receiving up to three times more than those of Labor.
The analysis of grants over a three-year period revealed Coalition seats had received more than $1.9 billion, compared with Labor electorates getting just under $530 million.
When questioned about the analysis, Mr Morrison denied the system had been highly politicised.
"It's a predictively selective analysis of 11 programs out of 1,700 so I think people can form their own judgements about that," he told reporters on Wednesday
"But what I do know is that when we make a commitment we keep it, that's what we do as a government."
...
In the latest analysis, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age said it examined 19,123 grants across 11 programs worth $2.8 billion in the 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years.
This accounted for one in five grants made in that time period.
The findings showed Labor leader Anthony Albanese's electorate of Grayndler had received just $718,000, while a neighbour Liberal-held marginal seat of Reid received $14.8 million.
Mr Morrison's home electorate of Cook received $8.2 million.
...
The analysis also identified that the largest number of grants by value and number had flowed to drought-affected and large electorates with a high proportion of small communities.
However, it showed Labor seats accounted for 15 of the 20 least-supported seats.
Mr Albanese said the analysis proved the government's handling of the grants system amounted to "pork barrelling" that is "out of control".
"They have completely corrupted the granting process and what we see is that these rorts need to stop," he told reporters.
He added that the government's determination to "brush off" these concerns meant there was the danger of a "frenzy" of this behaviour repeating in the lead up to the next election.
"Taxpayers don't pay different rates of tax according to what electorate they are in," he said.
"But what we know is unless you are in a marginal, Liberal or National party seat you won't receive the same support as those voters do."

- One suspects that even women in the PR industry are growing sick of this kind of here-one-day-gone-the-next publicity judging from my own experience: this year I received only two pitches for coverage, and those only on Monday, a day before the sacred day. In past years, there have been many more.
For the other 364 days (or 365 in a leap year), women in technology are relegated to the backrooms, with just the occasional person earning any coverage in the tech press. And it's not by any kind of manipulation by journalists; the person put forward by company A, B or C to offer some spiel about this, that or the other is unfailingly a man.
The only solution to this paucity of women in professions that have to do with science, technology, engineering and mathematics is to create quotas for them in this line. It is the only way to ensure some fairness. And it is nothing to do with being "woke" or "politically correct." It is plain commonsense.
There is nothing wrong with quotas when bias over the years — yes, bias — has kept out many a qualified and competent woman and instead resulted in the recruitment of some garden-variety male, just because he "fits in" better. Or maybe his dad had some influence among the recruiting company's top brass. Or maybe he came from the "right" kind of school or university.
In May last year, the government's STEM equity monitor showed that only 28% of those working in industries covered by this acronym were women. When key management personnel and senior managers were considered, only 23% were women. These statistics were for 2020.
I've seen how quotas work. The country from which I hail, India, has an institutionalised caste system, where the so-called upper castes lord it over the others. To overcome the natural bias in the system, the government found that the only way was to make quotas mandatory for admission to higher education and also government jobs. I still recall that when I joined college, so-called forward castes could only compete for 49% of the available seats. The balance was for all the others who had been discriminated against for ages.
Defenders of the existing system often claim that it is "degrading" to have quotas, as this would give women an "unfair" advantage and result in mediocre candidates getting into jobs which otherwise would have been filled by "competent" men.
This kind of rubbish argument assumes that only competent, qualified men get into the workforce, a fallacy that is shown up as such every single day.
This does not mean all women are super-competent. They follow a similar pattern to men: some are super-competent, others moderately competent and some are plain incompetent. But then, given men are very much in the same buckets and in the same proportions, what exactly prevents a company from recruiting a woman in preference to a man? The odds of issues arising are about the same.
It is only when the percentage of women in STEM jobs grows to at least 50% that others will be sufficiently encouraged to study STEM subjects as they will have some degree of confidence about their job prospects. Figures for 2019 show that less than a quarter (22%) of women were studying STEM subjects. As far as employment chances for STEM graduates went in the same year, men were 1.8 times more likely to land a role compared to women.
I agree that one cannot solve every problem by laying down the law. There are also cultural issues that have resulted in this situation. But one living example is in front of us: the Australian Labor Party has increased the number of women in its parliamentary ranks to 46% [if memory serves me right] by imposing quotas. The Liberals and Nationals, who claim to believe in merit, are trailing a mile behind and unlikely to catch up any time soon.
What leaders do, others tend to try and emulate. Someone needs to take the bull by the horns, without bothering about what others say.

Between March and December last year, traditional tasks like rubbish collection, cleaning footpaths and building community gardens were replaced with activities including quilting, knitting scarves, braiding dog leads, assembling planter boxes, sewing bags and sorting donations for op-shops. All items were donated to charities, animal shelters and aged care facilities.

- Why can't police proceed with an investigation? Is there no avenue by which to pursue a criminal case?
"No, not realistically," Bradley said. "I think the conclusion [the police] reached is certainly understandable because of the nature of sexual assault cases.
"In this particular case, they don't have a formal statement from the complainant. She's obviously no longer available, her evidence can't be tested. Really, it doesn't even get to first base in terms of the burden of proof for a prosecution of a crime. So no, there is no possibility that that could proceed."
He added, "I'm sorry to have to say that, yes, the system is not designed to deal with crimes of sexual violence. The cards are stacked against victims. And there is much about the way that our legal system handles these matters which needs reform."

- Early years and background
Ley was born in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria to English parents. When she was one year old, her family moved to the United Arab Emirates, where her father worked as a British intelligence officer. Ley attended boarding school in England until she was 13, when her family migrated to Australia.[9] Her parents bought a hobby farm in Toowoomba, but quickly sold it due to a crash in beef prices. They then moved to Canberra, where her father worked for the Australian Federal Police. She was educated at Campbell High School, Dickson College,[10] La Trobe University, the University of New South Wales and Charles Sturt University, and has master's degrees in taxation and accountancy. She changed her name from Susan to Sussan due to a belief in numerology.[11]
When Ley was 19 she enrolled in flight school and gained her commercial pilot's licence when she was 20. She has been a waitress, cleaner, and trained, but did not complete training, as an air traffic controller. But she was a commercial pilot, and later a farmer and shearer's cook. She met John Ley while aerial stock-mustering in south-west Queensland. They married in 1987, settled on her husband's family farm in north-east Victoria, and had three children before their 2004 divorce.[12] Ley was Director of Technical Training at the Australian Taxation Office in Albury from 1995 to 2001 before entering politics.[13]

- Because America entered both world wars of the 20th century last, while all the other great powers bled one another, and because we outlasted the Soviet Empire in the Cold War, America emerged, in the term of President George H.W. Bush, as "the last superpower."
We had it all. We were the "indispensable nation." We saw further into the future. We could impose our "benevolent global hegemony" on all mankind. And so it was that we set out to create a "new world order," plunging into successive wars in Iraq, the Balkans, Afghanistan, Iraq again, Syria, Libya, Yemen.
So doing, we bled ourselves, distracted ourselves, exhausted ourselves and sundered ourselves, until half the country was echoing George McGovern's 1972 campaign slogan: "Come home, America."
And as we went crusading for a new world order, Vladimir Putin's Russia gradually recovered from its crushing Cold War defeat, and China began to move out of America's shadow to become the most powerful rival modern America had ever faced.
Now, U.S. hegemony is being everywhere challenged — in Eastern Europe, the Near East, Southeast Asia, East Asia. And the challenges arise from autocrats united in their resolve to reduce the power and the presence of the United States in their part of the world.
All of America's adversaries have something in common: They want us out of their neighborhood.

- (CNN) - The FBI says it will not release crime numbers from the last quarter of 2021 because of a lack of reporting from U.S. law enforcement agencies.
The agency said it received data from less than 10,000 of the nation's nearly 19,000 law enforcement agencies, a number that falls under the 60% threshold the agency says it needs to release data trends by region and aggregate population groups.
Law enforcement agencies are not required to submit data to the FBI.
However, the agency said it would still post quarterly data from individual cities with a population of 100,000 or more.

After pouring beers for patrons at the lively boozer, Mr Morrison found himself on the receiving end of criticism from some - including one who called him the "worst PM ever".
A pubgoer was seen giving Mr Morrison a hard time about a range of issues, with a crowd gathering round to see what the commotion was about.
"Listen to me for a change. You can have a million dollar house, $250,000 in the bank and franking credits but a disability pensioner can't have an income," a video from the pub shows the man saying.

# There are often websites that don't interact well with download managers
# so you sometimes have to build a custom script to deal with it. This is
# a custom custom downloader script for MP3 podcasts for:
#
# Obviously, to make the most of this script you'll need to be able to

# As this is the very first version of the program it may be VERY buggy.
