ABS Postcode Research Script, Random Stuff, and More

- I recently had to do some postcode/suburb based research for marketing and research purposes. Basically, I created a script to scrape ABS (and similar) data and then converted this into a CSV file. Sounds simple but is pretty tedious if you understand how the data is formatted. Please note, that you can't actually obtain this data easily via so called "data packs" from the ABS. If you're interested in this download the following script:
- description is as follows:
# This script helps enable postcode based research based on ABS
# data in Australia. Uncomment the relevant lines of code and
# and run the script in the proper sequence. This script assumes
# you know how to code.
#
# Note, that data processing can take a lot of time and that the
# final file is so large that it may crash a lot of modern
# spreadsheet programs. Most of the time, I query this final file
# using basic BASH code.
#
# As this is the very first version of the program it may be VERY buggy.
# Please test prior to deployment in a production environment.
#
# 1.00 - works to download data
# 1.01 - didn't realise that australian_postcodes.csv was incomplete.
#        got some incomplete fields which leads to data alignment issues.
# 1.02 - reparse_abs_curl_csv doesn't deal with fields/misalignment of data
#        buggy due to misaligned data. Switch from comma to tab for fields
#        due to internal parsing
# 1.03 - works on first 20 of 73*.txt range, works for header1, data1 extraction
#         downloads missing nt and act ranges (mainly curious about what was
#         there. In reality, it didn't contain much data
# 1.04 - heaps of data alignment issues. This mainly has to do with an improper
#          number of tabs that occur occasionally. Found a bug in header which
#          involves / character seems to work completely now on all fields but can't
#         check due to total column import size limitation in Libreoffice. Had a
#         double dash bug that cropped up during creation of tsv files and printf
#         https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/22764/dashes-in-printf
# 1.05 - code cleanup. Created function to offer choice in header/data being
#           collated
# 1.06 - more code cleanup. If I created a problem during cleanup that's your
#          problem! This is a FOSS script/program and you should have known
#          what you were getting into!

Random Quotes:
- China has rattled Western observers for centuries, and the idea that it might be approaching a level of formidable heft is troubling to those who, condescendingly, see it as a naughty child who aspired to economic growth but could only do so as long as it behaved. In other words, they achieved success because we let them, and profited from our generosity. (The "we" here constitutes a good number of rapacious powers that stripped the country bare in the nineteenth century and turned the country into a giant opium addict).
...
In matters of gross domestic product, this could certainly count as an argument. With less than $10,000 per capita, the PRC comes in at 70th in the world stakes. In terms of amount, it was the equivalent of 15.6 percent of the US, 17 percent that of Australia. In a remark that seemed self-flagellating and stinging, the embassy admitted that Beijing still faced "the challenge of unbalanced development and underdevelopment."
The aping of US positions by satraps is a disease that has no obvious cure short of full, bold independence from Washington's clutching power. But as has been shown with conviction, Australia's commitment to the United States remains unquestionable and more than a touch sad. At least Tony Blair and his Britain were accused by their harshest critics of being substantive partners of a BDSM relationship with George W. Bush: Blair sporting the fishnets or perhaps being a subservient poodle. For Australian Prime Ministers, holding the drinks at an international reception in the US is sufficient to simply assume the views of the hosts. After all, the hosts can't be wrong, can they?

- My question isn't about the survivability of stealth fighters or its value. The technology is disruptive to an adversary's kill chain. Long range search radars can be countered with jamming, decoys, and a hard kill. Supposedly the IAF destroyed a JY-27 a few months ago in Syria. My question has to do with to what extent can a F-22/35 be detected by these radars. Detection will depend on the aircraft's profile and aspect but at what point does it show up on radar. I woulds assume that even though stealth fighters are optimized to defeat shorter wave length radars, it still has some ability to counter modern search radars.

- Like Turkey, India has stood strong on its purchase of the S-400 but it is learnt that only partial payments have been made by New Delhi, given banking sanctions that are already in place for dealing with Russian defence entities. More stringent CAATSA (Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act) sanctions have also been threatened against nations purchasing the S-400 from Russia.
While there had been an impression that the US could give India CAATSA waivers for the S-400, recent statements by Washington suggest that this would not be the case.
The US stand has been that it will not allow its modern combat aircraft to be operated in an environment where the S-400 is also operational, as it would be able to map these aircraft, enabling software upgrades and modifications to improve performance.
In an effort to wean India away from the S-400, the US has already offered its NASAMS II (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) for protection of the national capital region against ballistic missiles. In addition, the US has also been in talks for its advanced Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and Patriot Advance Capability (PAC-3) defence systems with India, though these would come at a significantly steeper cost than the S-400 system.

- Lower procurement rates for the Lockheed Martin F-35 have reversed the programme's positive gains since 2015, raising overall development and procurement costs by almost 7% through Fiscal 2044.
After years of stabilizing and reducing total programme costs under Joint Programme Office executive officer Lt Gen Christopher Bogdan, lower planned procurement rates over the next 27 years drove overall, inflation-adjusted costs from $379 billion to $406.5 billion, according to a Selected Acquisition Report (SAR) summary released on 11 July.
The US Air Force decreased its maximum annual aircraft procurement rate from 80 F-35As per year to 60. The change extended planned purchases of F-35s by the Department of Defense by six more years from Fiscal Year 2038 to 2044.
The decreased production quantities and and six-year procurement phase extension not only led to higher programme costs, but an increase in unit recurring flyaway estimates over the programme's lifetime and an increase in average procurement unit cost and program acquisition unit costs, according to the JPO.
The JPO maintains that research, development, test and evaluation costs have remained steady and that negotiated near term unit recurring flyaway costs continue to decline.
At the start of the JSF programme, the June 2002 SAR estimated total acquisition costs at $226.4 billion, or $312.3 billion in current dollars.
The US Marine Corps, Navy and USAF had also planned to order 2,866 aircraft in 2002, but the navy later lowered its buy, reducing the total F-35 purchase to 2,443 aircraft today.
The overall cost estimate was released a day after the DOD awarded Lockheed a $4.49 billion undefinitised contract adjustment with a $5.57 billion ceiling for the 11th lot of low-rate initial production (LRIP). The deal is a placeholder while the JPO negotiates final LRIP lot 11 prices with Lockheed for 90 airframes and with Pratt & Whitney for F135 engines.
The JPO says the negotiations for Lot 11 should result in a lower price than finalised in LRIP lot 10, which resulted in a $94.6 million flyaway unit cost for the F-35A.

- A. Gary Shilling is an American financial analyst and commentator who appears on a regular basis in publications such as Forbes magazine, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He is President of A. Gary Shilling & Co., Inc.,[1] editor of A. Gary Shilling's Insight, and member of The Nihon Keizai Shimbun[2] Board of Economists. He is featured frequently on business shows on radio and television, and as a recognised orator, addresses conventions of global business groups like the Young Presidents' Organization. He was awarded a bachelor's degree in Physics from Amherst College, and a PhD in Economics from Stanford University. He has worked for Thornhill Securities, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Merrill Lynch, and White Weld & Co., and Standard Oil Co NJ.[3]
In the spring of 1969, he was one of only a few analysts who correctly envisioned the recession at year's end,[4] and was almost a lone voice in 1973, when he forecast a monolithic international inventory-building fling, followed by the first significant recession since the Great Depression.
In the late 1970s, while most analysts presumed that waxing inflation would go on unabated, Shilling was the first to predict that America's infirm political climate would impede it.[5] He also foresaw various dangerous economic readjustment problems and a shift in investment strategy from a preference for tangible assets to an increased emphasis on stocks and bonds.
In June 2011, he predicted a 20% drop in housing in 2012 with a resulting global recession.[6] In October 2012 he predicted a global recession in 2013. [7]
In August 2015, he predicted that the price of oil "is headed for $10 to $20 per barrel" (it was $43/barrel at the time) due to higher productivity through fracking and OPEC not limiting production.[8]

- The US believes that not only would the Russian air defence system be incompatible with NATO equivalents, but that it could possibly reveal weaknesses in the F-35 to Russia, rendering the jet's stealth capabilities useless.
The US has been trying to convince Turkey to ditch its deal with Russia ever since it was inked in 2017, but without success. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly stated that the deal will proceed as planned and that the S-400s will be delivered on schedule in July 2019. Erdogan has also suggested creating a working group to iron out US concerns regarding the S-400 systems, but the US has not agreed to participate.

- Washington is really looking for three things from Beijing: play by the same set of rules everyone else is expected to play by, level the playing field with respect to a more equal trading relationship, and act as a responsible global leader that promotes global development and maintain peace. On its face, there is nothing unreasonable about any of this, but from the Chinese perspective, Beijing sees nothing wrong in doing things the Chinese way and cannot understand why any other nation might object.
Beijing wants Washington to mind its own business and not interfere in what it considers to be Chinese domestic issues. Moreover, China wants America to practice what it preaches and stop being hypocritical about its own rhetoric versus its own actions around the world. Additionally, Beijing, of course, wants Washington to stop trying to impede China's inevitable rise. There is clearly incongruity between what both are seeking and what either may be prepared to deliver. What differentiates this challenge from that of any other two nations is that both countries need each other in order to prosper and either of them is capable of causing insurmountable problems politically, economically, and militarily for the other.

- Chinese didn't sold anything to anyone expect J-7 in last couple of decades. No one bought J-10 nor J-11. Maybe they will sell JF-17 to someone. I don't count Pakistan they were partner.
And I really find funny when citation say Russians don't know to make RAM :D
When Russians visited our aircraft museum folks there ask them why they don't take parts of F-117 as Chinese did. Answer was simple "it is old tech compare to what we are working" so even though Russians didn't field stealth in past don't think they don't have clue about RAM, Tu-160 is probable first their plane where they apply RAM (some sources say it is Tu-22M3), intakes are threaded with graphite RAM and there are some sources (interview with constructor) which mentioned airframe have RAM coatings.
And if you don't like what Russians say you can googled CIA report from 1980s where CIA say lot more scientists and engineers works on RAM development in USSR then in USA.

- A senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said late in May that the US presence in the Middle East is at its "weakest in history" of Washington's military presence in this region, amid spiraling tensions between the two countries.
"The Americans have been present in the region since 1833 and they are currently at the weakest state throughout the history of their presence in West Asia, and have the minimum number of warships in the Persian Gulf," Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, the second-in-command of the IRGC said.

Digital Combat Simulator World Game Background, Random Stuff, and More

- YouTube recently directed me to combat game simulations. One of these is DCS World. It works but is sort of comical because it's supposed to be simulator but it's buggy, the AI/game logic is very strange, the models aren't realistic, can be very difficult to use, etc... You'll only understand if you watch enough footage (some of the funnier bugs are missiles that drop into the sea or go into outer space instead of their target, aircraft and vessels that refuse to attack the enemy or simply do the wrong thing, effectively useless submarines, etc...). It's a bit of fun and interesting but you can't really take it too seriously? Suspect a lot of scenario videos are for marketing?

- there are some channels which specialise only in fighter aircraft dogfights. What bugs me is that the mods/modelling seem to be based on existing aircraft which means an F-22 acts more like an F-15 then an F-22, or a Su-57 acts more like an F-22 then a Su-57, etc... It also leads to fun games but unrealistic simulations

- Among the indigenously-developed military equipment showcased during the parade in Tehran, the Ha'el (Buffer) gunnery system was making its debut.
Ha'el, which is an aerial defense system, has a passive radar, enabling it to detect targets and initiate a launch without being detected itself. It is mobile and is designed to take on low-altitude targets such as cruise missiles, intruding drones, and small flying robots.
The Kaman 12 (Bow 12) combat drone was also showcased during the parade.
Kaman 12 is capable of carrying a payload of four 22.6-kilogram bombs and has a flight range of 1,000 kilometers.
The domestic Bavar 373 (Belief 373) missile defense system was also publicly displayed for the first time on Sunday.
The system has a maximum range of over 200 kilometers and a maximum altitude of 27.
Designed to be compatible with Iran's geographical features, it is superior to its Russian counterpart the S-300 and American counterpart the Patriot.

- I studied US photos of the damaged Saudi oil installations. Its oil tanks appear to be precisely hit at the same place. After the attack, the Saudis claimed half of their oil production was knocked out; but a day later, they vowed production would be resumed within a week. Parts of so-called drones were shown that appeared way beyond the technological capabilities of Yemen or even Iran. The missiles may have been supplied by Ukraine.
The Saudis, like their patron in Washington, have a poor record for truthfulness. Remember the Saudi denials about the murder of journalist and Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi? More important, we have been waiting for more false flag attacks in the Gulf designed to justify a US attack on Iran.
The pattern of so-called drone attacks against the Saudi oil installations is just too neat and symmetrical. The Israelis have a strong interest in promoting a US-Saudi War. The attacks in Saudi came ironically right after the anniversary of 9/11 that plunged the US into war against large parts of the Muslim world.
As a long-time military observer, I find it very hard to believe that drones could be guided over such long distances and so accurately without aircraft or satellites to guide them. In Yemen, which is just creeping into the 12th century, changing a flat tire is a major technological achievement. To date, Iran's missile arsenal has poor reliability and major guidance problems.
Adding to the questions, the Saudis have spent billions on US-made air defense systems. They failed to protect the oil installations. The Saudis would have been better off buying air defenses from the Russians, at a quarter of the US selling price.
Trump at least showed some wisdom by so far rejecting demands from the neocons that surround him to launch major attacks on Iran. Blasting Iran would not serve much purpose and would expose US forces in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Somalia, and Syria to Iranian guerilla attacks. Saudi oil installations – after what we saw last week – are vulnerable.
Attacking Iran, even if just from the air, risks a much wider Mideast war just as the Trump administration – which originally campaigned against 'stupid' Mideast wars – faces next year's elections. But the administration is under intense pressure from its pro-Israel base to go after Iran.
Bombing Iran's oil infrastructure would be relatively easy and has been intensively planned since early 2002. But what next? So-called 'regime change' (Washington's favorite euphemism for overthrowing disobedient foreign governments) rarely works as planned and can get the US into horribly messy situations. The CIA overthrew Iran's democratic government in 1953 and look where we are today.
Perhaps the attacks on Abqaiq may cause the reckless Saudi leaders to stop devastating Yemen and throttle back on their proxy war against Iran which has gone on since 1979. But don't count on it.

- April 26 (UPI) -- The lower-than-desired performance of the F-35 fighter plane is the result of supply chain issues, the General Accounting Office said in a report.
The 59-page report, released on Thursday, noted that the plane is unable to fly as often as required because of spare parts shortages and logistical problems in moving parts around the world.
GAO said that in the time period analyzed, May to November of 2018, F-35s were unable to fly 30 percent of the time because of shortages and mismatched parts, and that the Defense Department has an order backlog of about 4,300 parts.
Parts for the aircraft are made largely in the United States, but also in other NATO countries, and the report said the Defense Department has not fully determined which actions are required to close the pipeline gap between fighting requirements and the performance of the F-35 supply chain.

http://dtbnguyen.blogspot.com/2015/02/simple-pasta-recipes.html

This is being placed here for my own possible records and for others to use if so desired. This is based on recipes online and an interpretation of restaurants that I occasionally frequent. The point of these recipes is to achieve the best taste, in the quickest possible time, at the cheapest possible price. That's why the ingredients are somewhat non-traditional at times. Here's the other thing, it's obvious that they can be altered quickly and easily to suit other core ingredients. Don't be afraid to experiment.

For a while now I've wondered whether it's possible to create a simple Asian style chicken noodle soup recipe using cheap ingredients that was really simple and quick. It is.

The following ingredients are required:
- chicken pieces
- water
- fish sauce
- soy sauce
- salt
- sugar or palm sugar
- garlic
- ginger
- carrots
- noodles (can be rice or egg based. This recipe seems to work with both)
- chicken stock (can be powdered or liquid)(optional)
- celery (optional)
- onion (optional)
- leek (optional)
- green vegetables (a lot of restaurants often use bean sprouts, buk choy, cabbage, or something similar)(optional)
- fried shallots (optional)
- star anise (optional)
- dumplings, char-siu, or roast pork (this gives it a more restaurant feel but isn't really needed)(optional)

Throw chicken pieces and chopped core ingredients into a pot of water or chicken stock. Boil this pot. Add vegetables and any other optional ingredients you may like. Add salt, fish sauce, and/or soy sauce to taste. Cook noodles separately. Ladle soup over noodles in soup bowl and serve.

It'll look something like the following:

Random Quotes:
- There’s an old stereotype about the difference between cats and dogs. Dogs are loving and fiercely loyal, they say, while cats are aloof and indifferent. Most cat people probably disagree – I certainly find it hard to believe, with my cat purring away in my lap, that she doesn’t care about me.
Overall, cat cognition research suggests cats do form emotional bonds with their humans. Cats seem to experience separation anxiety, are more responsive to their owners’ voices than to strangers’ and look for reassurance from their owners in scary situations.
But a new study, by researchers in Japan, complicates the picture of our relationship with cats. Adapting a method previously used to study dogs, the researchers found cats – unlike dogs – don’t avoid strangers who refuse to help their owners.
In the experiment, a cat watched as her owner tried to open a box to get at something inside. Two strangers sat on either side of the owner and the owner turned to one of them and asked for help. In “helper” trials, the stranger helped the owner to open the box. In “non-helper” trials, the stranger refused. The other stranger sat passively, doing nothing.
- Scott Morrison has declared that unemployed Australians who refuse to take jobs should have their Centrelink benefits withdrawn.
The prime minister is frustrated that 54,000 jobs are going begging in regional Australia - including at pubs, cafes and farms - despite the government's $6,000 relocation payment.
'Unemployed Australians are simply and regrettably not filling these jobs,' he told the AFR business summit in Sydney on Tuesday.
From April JobSeeker recipients will have to apply for 15 jobs a month, rising to 20 from July as the payment permanently increases by $50 a fortnight to $620.80.
'This is a fair exchange,' Mr Morrison said.
'If there is a job available, and you are able to do that job, then it is reasonable for taxpayers to expect that it will be taken up, rather than continue to receive benefits.'
Farmers have been struggling to hire workers due to a shortage of backpackers who have been unable to enter the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The prime minister warned that produce going unpicked on farms meant that food prices will rise for every Australian and described the waste as a 'tragedy.'
Another solution is to bring in temporary migrants on conditional visas to 'fill the gap' and boost the economy as a whole, thereby creating more jobs, he said.
'We have tried in the past to first get Australians into these jobs, but having tried to do that with any number of incentives,' Mr Morrison said.
'It has been incredibly difficult and we have to call it as it is. When Australians won't do the jobs, the jobs still need to be done.
'I can't have horticulturists ploughing their produce back into their fields because they can't get the workers.
'We must relook at the role that temporary visa holders play in meeting our economy's workforce requirements, where Australians do not fill these jobs,' he said.
Mr Morrison said he was open minded about reforming the immigration system and would look at conditional visas that could require workers to live in regional areas.
'We have got a real open mind on this,' he said.
'Conditionality is one of the great advantages of the temporary visa program. You can't put conditions on permanent visas.
'Those conditions can help us direct where people can go, which can ease pressures in metropolitan areas but hopefully ease pressures in regional areas.'
- Hi everyone,
This sunday I'll offer dinner vegetable gratin with broccoli and vegetable soup and  fry brocoli with almonds very encouraging comments and your kindness over the past  of days, since I first posted. It also shows that among you there are wonderful people who want to help others in one way or another.
I will always be glad to help people that I hear about through others.
I want to say that there are around you people who do not have Facebook and they cannot see offers that can be useful for them. Please be aware of your neighbours and if they are in need. Let's return to a united society, full of love and peace. You are all helping me improve my English by connecting with me and sending messages (my Aussie wife helps me understand some)
I have created a group for the  of the neighbours party  that I would like to do it on the 28th of November if you are interested in joining us and I am waiting for you to open up.
- Kamahl accepted he had benefitted from the publicity generated by his appearances on the program. “My basic philosophy as far as television is concerned was, if you’re an entertainer, if they don’t see you on television, they think you’re dead,” he said.
But, he said, he had little control over how he would be portrayed on the program, and that when he first appeared “I didn’t realise it was going to be a minefield, of sorts”.
“There were a number of instances where I felt humiliated, but I didn’t want to raise any objections or protest about it. I kept smiling and pretending all was OK.”
- VANCOUVER — Grizzly bears seem to favour gently sloping or flat trails like those commonly used by people, which can affect land management practices in wild areas, says an expert who has written a paper on their travel patterns.
One of the reasons people encounter bears while hiking could be because they prefer the same routes as humans, said Gordon Stenhouse, a researcher at the Alberta-based Foothills Research Institute.
The study recently published in the Journal of Experimental Biology could be used by resource-based industries in areas like forestry, oil and gas exploration, especially in Alberta, he said in an interview.
“Grizzly bears alter their movement patterns and habitat use in response to a wide range of environmental cues, including seasonal food resources, human recreation — such as hiking, camping, hunting — livestock grazing and road use,” the study says.
The study was led by Anthony Carnahan, a doctoral candidate at Washington State University.
Stenhouse said the study can help understand what areas bears use, how fast they move, how best to conserve those places and avoid conflict with the animals.
“Bears will make decisions on lots of factors and certainly, you know, the information shows that bears look for easy routes of travel, just like people do,” he said.

Recycling/Unlocking/Hacking Devices for Fun and Profit, Random Stuff, and More

- there's a lot of discussion about saving the environment and re-use but in reality it often skims the surface. Moreover, in reality, a lot of the time waste is getting sent overseas but effectively dumped or burnt instead of being recycled. We'll look at some local options here:
How do we sort out Australia's waste problem _ ABC News

fake recycling
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2018/10/5-recycling-myths-busted-plastic/
Or, at least, that's how it used to work. Then, on the first day of 2018, China, the world's largest market for recycled waste, essentially shut its doors. Under its National Sword policy, China prohibited 24 types of waste from entering the country, arguing that what was coming in was too contaminated. The policy shift was partly attributed to the impact of a documentary, Plastic China, which went viral before censors erased it from China's internet. The film follows a family working in the country's recycling industry, where humans pick through vast dunes of western waste, shredding and melting salvageable plastic into pellets that can be sold to manufacturers. It is filthy, polluting work – and badly paid. The remainder is often burned in the open air. The family lives alongside the sorting machine, their 11-year-old daughter playing with a Barbie pulled from the rubbish.
For recyclers such as Smith, National Sword was a huge blow. "The price of cardboard has probably halved in the last 12 months," he says. "The price of plastics has plummeted to the extent that it isn't worth recycling. If China doesn't take plastic, we can't sell it." Still, that waste has to go somewhere. The UK, like most developed nations, produces more waste than it can process at home: 230m tonnes a year – about 1.1kg per person per day. (The US, the world's most wasteful nation, produces 2kg per person per day.) Quickly, the market began flooding any country that would take the trash: Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, countries with some of the world's highest rates of what researchers call "waste mismanagement" – rubbish left or burned in open landfills, illegal sites or facilities with inadequate reporting, making its final fate difficult to trace.

telstra thub 2 use tablet only
Hi Sarahj4450,
I grabbed one of the T-Hub 2 tablets from our test bench here and returned it to factory default settings. From the screen where it asks you to start the setup process I held down the volume down button while I dragged my finger in a Z formation across the corners of the tablet.
This seems to have bypassed the setup and allowed me to access the main interface. From here, I was able to get into settings and configure the Wi-Fi settings.

That said, the process of unlocking for full network capabilities is pretty interesting. I've been finding that at least some of them don't run checks for network time usage which means that if you have an old SIM card you may be able to unlock your device immediately and for free?

- when all else fails you can often resort to scrap metal recycling. Extracting raw metals isn't as easy as you think and the amounts you're dealing with means the economics sort of don't make sense. The only way it works out is if you happen to have free or cheap chemicals nearby. Don't expect to gain all that much from metal recyclers. Most of the time you should only expect only to recover costs of the project if it hits that point

- Mason concluded, "The first exoplanet [a planet outside our solar system] was found in 1992. Even if we thought we had a way to get someone to another planet, we didn't have any planets to go to.
"Now we have several hundred that are in the inhabitable zone. It's a really unprecedented time of genetics and astronomy coming together – we know what's needed to survive on another planet, and we know where we can go."

All in all, AP identified at least six sexual misconduct allegations involving senior FBI officials over the past five years. What's more, the media outlet found that each of the accused FBI officials seemed to have avoided discipline being "quietly transferred or retired" and kept their "full pensions and benefits even when probes substantiated the sexual misconduct claims against them." Some of AP's reported incidents were later picked by IG Horowitz for further investigation. In April 2021, the inspector general confirmed the media outlet's findings in his report.

- It seems like the US uses The Netherlands as a tool to keep Germany and France from any initiatives to improve the EU's relationship with Russia. Founder of the US think tank Stratfor George Friedman once explained: an alliance between Germany and Russia would be a threat to US dominance. "For centuries", the US has tried to prevent this from happening, he said.
In 1941, after Germany invaded the Soviet Union, then-US Senator and later President Harry Truman said: "If we see that Germany is winning the war, we ought to help Russia; and if that Russia is winning, we ought to help Germany, and in that way let them kill as many as possible".

Kraft said a dominant adult male might catch and eat more than 30 fish a day and weigh over 1,000lb by the time winter comes. "When you look at how much weight bears need to gain to survive six months of famine, you can't help but cheer them on," she said.

- The beagle research first came to light in August, when a watchdog group obtained government documents on the program. The group alleged such details as researchers drugging pups and locking their heads in mesh cages so hungry sand flies could infect them with disease-causing parasites by devouring their faces.
"I cannot believe American tax dollars would go to treat those dogs the way those dogs are treated, and you know, I really think Fauci needs to be held accountable," DeSantis said. "These people, these bureaucrats, they don't get to just run wild and do whatever the hell they want to with our tax dollars."

The United States is still continuing its "massive cover-up" over the September 11, 2001 attacks in order to hide its own failures and to use the incident as a pretext to launch and justify wars in the Middle East, says a prominent American peace activist and FBI whistleblower.
Coleen Rowley, a former FBI special agent and division counsel, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday, after US President Joe Biden directed the Justice Department and other agencies to review and release certain documents related to the FBI's investigation of the 9/11 that killed thousands of Americans.
The documents reportedly contain evidence of Saudi involvement in the strikes.
"I think there has been a massive cover-up about 9/11 for these last 20 years for a whole range of reasons including US government officials wanting to use 9/11 as a pretext to launch wars and government destabilization operations in the Mid-East as well as to protect their relationship with certain members of the Saudi Government (aka the Royal Family)," Rowley said.
"Officials also wanted to keep secret all kinds of wrongful and unethical actions (to include having instituted illegal torture programs) as well as committing other government mistakes and failures that are embarrassing to US officials," she added.

- Whether it's building kingdoms by way of aggression, war and plunder or the modern enslavement of people by financial institutions, there's a genuine case to be made that imperialism is caused by the power of evil.
Are Empires demonic entities? The British Empire was invented by magician John Dee – a well-documented fact. He came up with the phrase and suggested it to Queen Elizabeth I. The story goes that he had conjured up a demon who inspired that imperial vision. Not bloody likely, of course, but the link between the demonic – the power of evil – and imperialism seems well-grounded.
My favourite historian, AJP Taylor, has written that the British imperialists overseas emulated Attila and his Huns. In North America, the British exterminated the native inhabitants… just as they had earlier striven to exterminate the natives of Ireland. "No Empire has marched forward with more savagery...they followed a simple rule: the only good Indian is a dead Indian." Verily, a formulation worthy of a demon.

- Great ape fellatio may seem unorthodox, but it's really not. Oral sex is actually fairly common throughout the animal kingdom with sightings of species ranging from cheetahs to bears and bats engaging in the salacious act, the BBC has reported.
In fact, many species engage in sex for pleasure. Bonobos — also known as hippie apes — have infamously kinky sex lives.

- "Their playful nature was a reminder to the world of how much we see ourselves in these animals and it's one of the reasons Andre Bauma will miss her so dearly," park officials said.
A photo shows Bauma holding Ndakasi during her final moments. The gorilla's head rests on his chest in the sombre shot.
"It was a privilege to support and care for such a loving creature, especially knowing the trauma Ndakasi suffered at a very young age," Bouma said in a statement. "It was Ndakasi's sweet nature and intelligence that helped me to understand the connection between humans and great apes and why we should do everything in our power to protect them."
Bouma said he loved Ndakasi "like a child" and cherished her "cheerful personality" in the face of her traumatic past.

- How to start from scratch and hit $10k MRR (9 steps)
On indiehackers only 6% off all startups listed have crossed $10kMRR
That success rate might scare many but its purely because more startups start with "product" first and distribution second
Reverse that order and you'll almost always succeed. Say what you want, a superior growth plan beats a superior product.
We've managed to repeat this process for a few companies and ourselves so i thought i'd take the time to break it down here.
1) Get an idea or borrow one
Shorten your time to product market fit, as much as you can. Chase validation signals at every step of the way
2) Find out 2 things people are complaining about
Most startups these days are just enhanced versions of other startups
3) Find out where people are buying and looking for answers
Knowing where decisions are made is fundamental to your acquisition cycle
4) Sell in places where a crowd is
If acquisition is handled you can focus on building a better product
5) No code website + basic concept to get your initial traction and messaging going
Rapid iteration, stop being attached to an idea and instead stick to the problem
6) Partner with tech person + freelancer to build first version of product
Build the first version once you've got everything above sorted out
7) Offer free tools for marketing as easy way to attract leads + share with influencers
Veed, Kapwing, Zillow are grew to be multi million dollar businesses using this startegy
😎 Find ways to make your product visible
Invinsible products are harder to sell, try find ways to reduce CAC as you grow
9) Dominate SEO, search is very powerful - focus on pain point content creation
Search, IMO is the most sustainable and stable way to build a 8 figure brand
